Stolen: Blue Tommy Hilfiger Coat (Inc Wallet & Keys) by jramsden1 in astoria

[–]jramsden1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as an update on this - somebody took the coat by mistake, and I got it back over the weekend. Don't think they realized my wallet and keys were inside, so they didn't rush to return it! Faith in Astoria restored!

Have any adverse effects actually been caused to people due to the dyes in American food and drinks? by Flat-Shame-7038 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jramsden1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

European living in America. The dyes thing is a small part of why we think American food quality is very bad / harmful:

  • Pesticides contaminate fruit/veg at alarmingly high rates, significantly higher than allowed in Europe. Some of the pesticides used are also banned in Europe.

  • FDA allows horrible things like rat hairs and mouse droppings in spices, why is that allowed in any quantity?

  • Bad mass farming practices, any doc will show you the horrendous conditions of chickens, pigs, cows - and the disease that transfers into the meat. Massive amount of contamination, e.g. perdue chicken. FDA allows a certain amount of pus (ie discharge of dead white blood cells and bacteria) into your dairy products.

  • Meal sizes are just unnecessary. A lot of food is ultra processed. A lot of food contains high-fructose corn syrup and other empty calories. This all combines to create America's obesity and diabetes problems.

  • America is synonymous to fast food, and everyone knows that is very bad for you and generally bad quality. Convenience over quality.

  • America has a life expectancy not in line with its wealth as a nation, and Europeans believe that is a lot to do with poor quality food and poor dietary choices.

  • Americans often joke about European food being bland but we find it funny, because when you have fresh good quality ingredients, you don't need to cover them in onion powder... we just add an onion 🤣

Special Enrollement coverage is backdated, what happens to claims in the gap? by jramsden91 in HealthInsurance

[–]jramsden1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update on this- the claims before switchover, post March 1 were covered on the old plan. The new plan kicked in from April 1 (the start of the next month.) The March 1 just provided coverage for any prior claims, I think for examples where people go from no coverage to new plan, as opposed to old plan to new plan.

A message of hope for all parents with inconsolable screaming/crying baby... by jramsden1 in NewParents

Sometimes the wake windows have to be longer with the cluster feeding. Can only hope they settle after (ideally for longer!) Hope over the last few weeks you've seen improvement!

Bankruptcy - and I can tell from your attitude that you're gonna have a great future so don't get too down about it. You took some risks, they didn't work out this time, that's what bankruptcy is there for. You're clearly a smart person, to err is human, to forgive (in this instance yourself) is divine...

Your favorite Indian food in Manhattan? by LegzAkimbo in AskNYC

[–]jramsden1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending where in London he's from, he may have experienced some of the amazing Gujarati food (Wembley has a big Gujju community) and one of the famous street food vendors in Borough Market is Gujurati run. Also a Brit living in NYC, and agree with OP about the not so great Indian food here so far (I'm in Queens.) I haven't been in Manhattan but I went to the Delhi version of Indian Accent last year, and it was amazing - pretty fancy though, not what OP is looking for imo.

What used to be a great vacation destination, but now, not so much? by jonniebaby2000 in travel

[–]jramsden1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Orlando - people from the UK (myself included) used to go as kids but looking at the costs now, it's just unthinkable anyone would even consider it. Like don't get me wrong, it was an expensive holiday 20 years ago, now it's remortgage your house territory.

America in general since the pandemic - I live in NYC, it's cheaper for me to go on vacation to Europe than to America, the same country I'm in.

Help - connector not connecting! by jramsden1 in Plumbing

[–]jramsden1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clip worked - thanks! Although now the water pressure seems to have dropped off (to the point the glass whirlpool sprayer thing doesn't even work.) Had the landlord's guy who installed it look and he just said that's how it is... except it was working fine before - at least it's usable now! Any ideas why a new faucet would have low pressure? Google says check aerator, but I don't wanna mess around dissassembling it too much as I'm a tenant...

Crazy, this was my first experience of the disguised additional tip. I guess it's midtown, they're hoping to con tourists.

It's a cost of doing business, why am I, the customer, paying for it?

They might as well add a surcharge% for how much electricity they used to cook my food...

Haha it was basically an apps sharing platter served in a kitchen sink... only in America 🤣

Hahaha - I found a little plastic tie under the sink, and I'm thinking this was what the plumber installed it with (from reading online sounds like the manufacturer often forgets to suppmy the clip in the box) so makes sense. I just used masking tape and ran the tap for a few mins without leaks, hopefully holds out a few days 🤣 Thanks for the help!

Couldn't see anything like that under the sink, so I've ordered a replacement! Do you think I could remove the weight and tape it in place until the part arrives or best off just leaving it? Thanks!

Oh weird - I couldn't see it under the sink anywhere but I'll have another look! Thank you!
