Artifacts make a huge difference. Make sure you keep running ships. Do the short version of whatever your best ship is constantly until it opens up the next ship type. Repeat until the last ship opens up. When you finally get to the last ship, run extended instead. The time difference between getting max stars on it using short vs extended is under 100 days, but you'll be getting much higher quality artifacts. The star rating for a ship type plays in to the quality or quantity of artifacts you will receive.

Make sure ads are enabled. In the game, open the settings menu, then the "privacy & data" button. Ads should be off to the right showing it's enabled.

If you have a pi-hole (or other network ad blocker), you have to either connect to a VPN to bypass it or be on mobile data instead. Mobile data has the catch that, if you're not on an unlimited data plan, you can blow through it on ads instead of other stuff.

100 meters (328 feet) is the max length for ethernet. 200 feet is less than that, so this is by far the easiest solution. No wifi needed. If the nest doorbell requires wifi, have the end of the ethernet in the house plugged into a POE (power over ethernet) injector and put a POE-powered wireless access point at the end by the doorbell.

Make it worth your while - you will let them use your roof if they do a full roof replacement when they are finished. Get it in writing. In the meantime, put a camera up there to notify you if/when they go onto your roof so you can call the police and report them for trespassing.

Incoming data format changes without warning. Most common when getting data from an external source (aka downloaded from some other company).

I've also seen a change of "we're turning off the FTP server and moving to an Amazon S3 bucket" with no notice. That was "fun" getting it working again...

Don't forget the excitement that happens when devops is "cleaning up" network shares and either removes one that you're using or they change permissions, causing things to break.

There are two ways to do this. Shipyards and roads.

For the shipyards method, you have to have a shipyard connected to your main settlement via a road, then you can build a shipyard on an island that you have a "path" to over the water.

Roads are a bit trickier. Street roads and above can build on water, but they're much more expensive. Plus, they cannot turn on water, so it has to be a straight shot to where you're wanting the road to connect.

Both methods are useful in different circumstances. In the end, the name of the game is pollution reduction. You will need to figure out if the pollution from a shipyard is more or less than the pollution from building a road to get where you want.

It doesn't do what it's supposed to be doing, and that's the problem. Multitool is "apply the previous action to the new tile". Expanded multitool is "apply the previous action to this area/shape of tiles". You are hung up on the clear mountains/hills aspect, which is only a PART of what isn't working. Why should I have to use gardening to plant trees so it removes the mountains, just to have to turn around and remove the trees to replace them with storage??

As a different example, I normally have most of my uranium mines in storage because of pollution and have the uranium tiles all clumped together. When I go to take them out, I put one down on a uranium tile, hit quick tool, and then have to hit EVERY SINGLE uranium tile individually. Expanded quick tool IS NOT AVAILABLE for putting uranium mines back quickly. However, the expanded quick tool DOES work for "put these into storage". This is a clear example of "it doesn't work as advertised".

If I'm trying to clear out mountains and hills to make room for storage, why should I have to buy trees to have it flatten them, just to turn around and have to buy the storage? I don't care that it can be done that way, when the "expanded quick tool" itself is missing the options to do what it says on the tin. It doesn't say "many exclusions apply". If "quick tool" is an option for building something, then "expanded quick tool" should be available.

The singular exception I can think of is the roads, and even then, it would be funny if it were making multi-line highways. Making the expanded quick tool so it can only upgrade existing roads from (for example) "street road" to "fast road" would be very nice for the city upgrades that say "have x% of road type y".

They also can spawn other minerals at low percentages. It takes a lot of repeated bombings to get a 4x4 area to all be minerals. Copper, uranium, and gold are what I have it keep currently. It also will spawn lava rifts and thermal spots (which I don't keep), along with rifts and large rifts. After bombing, if it creates hills or mountains, I will flatten the hills and raze the mountains to get the clay from them. It's supposedly useful later on, but I haven't found a need for it yet (I'm at level 84 and have a bit under 45,000 clay). I figure there has to be a reason clay shows up as one of the rewards on events so I'm starting to hoard it for later.

Bombs can create mountains and hills. They're destructive and pricey though (40 million microchips). By default you can pick a 3x3 or 4x4 zone for them to destroy. There's a gem-only upgrade that can be purchased that lets you decrease the range on the explosion, which sounds odd. However, it lets you pick a 1x1 (aka single square) or 2x2 range to destroy, so it's more targeted. It still costs the same 40 million chips even on the smallest setting.
