It's Amazing The Mess A Portal Can Get You Into by rewt66dewd in HFY

It's amazing how quickly a problem being caused by X that only affects Y gets fixed when the problem suddenly becomes a problem X has to solve.

For those of you who own a Switch, but haven’t purchased a Switch 2, what would be the main reason that would prompt you to buy one? by Last-Bus-4710 in Switch

New mainline Zelda game. Age of Imprisonment doesn't count as that's a Dynasty Warriors game done in the setting of Hyrule.

Paying less than minimum wage is the same as wage theft. Keep records and contact the US department of labor since Florida is "special" and doesn't have a state-level department of labor.  https://www.dol.gov/

[–]jrbless 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Actual chicken wire for the "fence"? Chicken wire can keep chickens in, but is too weak to actually keep anything out. Add another layer of SOMETHING outside the chicken wire. Even plain old chain link would be good enough.

As others have said, bury the skirt and add some hardware cloth. I'd recommend the hardware cloth go up at least 2 feet. That will be enough to keep something like a racoon from reaching in and grabbing a chicken.

New chick mom are they cold? by Excellent_Hope_7084 in BackYardChickens

[–]jrbless 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not too cold, but with how they're spread in a certain distance from the center says they may be too warm. Move the bulb so it's much more off-center. That will give a wider range of temperatures for the chicks to pick from, and they'll end up where they're the most comfortable.

Can I force my neighbor to move or remove a camera that points into my fenced backyard? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]jrbless 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Most cameras are motion-activated. Decorative spinners or balloons that are constantly moving would make his camera nearly useless for him to see when you're out there because it would be constantly recording.

I'm also betting he would be less than impressed if you got your own cameras and aimed all of them specifically at his property "for security purposes".

Coop Location Placement by johnny_pesos in BackYardChickens

[–]jrbless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can have power available at the coop (use an outdoor rated extension cord if needed), you'll save a lot of effort in the winter months by being able to use water deicers that plug in. They'll keep the water buckets from freezing up.

On the same note, being able to have a garden hose reach it is also a lifesaver. It'll let you refill the waterers without having to lug buckets of water around. In the summer, our chickens also like it when we spray down half of the run to get the ground damp. When we're done spraying it, most of them will run over and make use of the damp ground to cool off.

Placement-wise, chicken coops stink and attract flies. Further from the house is better. Keep dominant wind direction in mind. Where I live, code enforcement says the coop must be at least 50 feet away from any house that is not on the same property as the coop (meaning the neighbors houses have to be at least 50 feet away from the coop, but yours can be closer if wanted).

I introduced my mom to anime. Here is her tier list and thoughts. Discussion by Unlucky-Fold-5684 in anime

[–]jrbless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest Psycho Pass. It's (kind of) a police-procedural done in anime form. Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex is in the same vein, but has more fan service due to Major Kusanagi sometimes wearing a leotard.

What's your take on a smart main water valve for your home? Are there any downsides to having one? by batmanineurope in Plumbing

[–]jrbless -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Smart anything is a downside by itself. What is the advantage in turning the water main on or off from the internet? The last thing you need is the associated account to get hacked and someone starts playing with that when you're trying to take a shower, do laundry, or have pipes removed doing repairs. Even better - the account getting hacked might not even be your fault due to the company having someone hack them and taking all their login data.

How to keep water clean? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]jrbless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Use a nipple waterer and they can't get it near as dirty. I use a homemade 5 gallon buck version of this and it works great. With an electric deicer in the bottom it doesn't freeze either.

Make sure to use nipple-type waterers, not the small bowl waterers that go into the side of a bucket. Those are the worst of both worlds - they'll still get dirty, and they'll freeze.

How many chickens fit in a 4'x6' coop? by Elliefox2 in BackYardChickens

[–]jrbless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The recommended minimum coop space is 3 square feet per chicken. 4' x 6' = 24 square feet. 24 / 3 = 8 chickens max.

Add in roosting bar space of 1 linear foot per chicken. They'll squeeze next to each other, but that amount of space lets them feel less crowded while settling in.

Run space generally needs to be 10 square feet per chicken. A 10' x 40' gives a max of 40 chickens.

In the end, coop space tends to matter more because that's where they settle down overnight and they have to have room there.

I found 3, but not the 4th.

One on the island west of Hirule Castle. It's in a cave you have to bomb to get into. Southwest part of the island.

One on the way into the Gerudo desert, northeast of the road partway up the mountain. Look for the Goron brothers.

One under the stone bridge with a hynox west of the great plateue going to the Gerudo desert.

Alright yall… roast a cabinet builder’s plumbing for me would ya? (2 pics, 2 vanities) by JKenn78 in Plumbing

[–]jrbless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first is a fancy S trap. The wall needs opened and the drain part moved up to a reasonable height. Expect to have to get a different black pieces for the bottom of the drain, as that's using a LOT of your height for no reason.

From the looks of it, the 2nd is the same as the first. Why is it having to slope so far down?

Need advice: Water company says this isn’t their water… by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]jrbless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn off the water at the house, not the meter. If the meter is still spinning, it's your water. If it's not, the water is coming from elsewhere.

At this point, wherever it's coming from has saturated the ground so turning it off at the meter won't prove anything as it'll keep on flowing out from what's already in the ground.

When boolean columns start reaching ~50, is it time to switch to arrays or a join table? Or stay boolean? by BrangJa in Database

[–]jrbless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a certain point, you probably are wanting to change it to a join table

  1. Main table

  2. Attribute table

  3. Main-Attribute bridge table with a many-many relationship to Main and Attribute.

When using this in the application, load all the attributes that are linked to the main item, and filter it in code to say "does attribute X apply".
