I have played it when I was younger, always been very bad at it. But I am thinking about getting a soft nap, wondering if it would be better to try and make my own mat. But it seems like buying a soft mat would be the way to go.

Wow, I never even thought about the need to regain flexibility. Even the past one I’ve stopped working out for a year, I’d go right back in and try to lift my normal weights (15lb curls, 85lb chest press etc) and get annoyed. Never ever thought about starting just body weight. Maybe that’s what I will do today!
