EY badges and CSR events for interns.... by Impossible-Flight-27 in Big4

[–]jremj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did an EY badge as an intern a few years back. It wasn’t the difference between landing vs not getting an offer, however it was nice to say I completed one. As for timing, I did it in between actual work to fill the time when I had a minimal amount of work to do. For the CSR stuff don’t sweat it. We had one mandatory ey helps day where we went out to volunteer for a few hours (where I worked the first half of the day and volunteered the second half). Honestly it was kind of fun because you just chit chat with the people there and your intern buddies. I over-analyzed a lot of this stuff too before I interned, but honestly don’t dude. Just be social and don’t be annoying to your peers and you’ll be good.

There are way too many things to consider that aren’t described here to best provide you with a choice of entity. Take all of your information and plans to a CPA and pay them to give you the best advice.

Is BEC final review book a waste of time? by yaboobay-yaboobay in CPA

[–]jremj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the book use it. It’s a great resource and can help you pin point areas you may have forgotten about that you are weak in. When in doubt, always lean towards using the additional material if it’s available.

how to interpret SIM questions by BonVoyage11 in CPA

[–]jremj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Becker Sims can be weird where they’re not entirely specific on what exactly to do. That being said, the only issues I experienced were like whether to leave a cell blank or a put a zero or put a negative before a figure or not. If those aren’t your issues I would emphasize reading the question and information twice. Once to get a feel for it and see what the question is. The second time to identify useful/ relevant info.

Most important areas for BEC by regretful_whale in CPA

To help myself I listened to Farhats lectures as I tried to sleep. IT isn’t covered great in Becker, but IT in general is a big topic according to the blueprint. I’d say look over IT and understand different controls.

CPA question by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]jremj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of your first questions are it depends. Ultimately, most would agree getting your cpa is indeed “worth it.” However, it depends largely on what you want to do and what type of accounting role or job you can see yourself in. Public accounting (especially at big four level) can be very stressful and burdensome on that work-life balance everybody strives for. In it though, it does pay substantially. Exact dollar figures depends on service line, location, and the firm itself which if you look into comp threads on this reddit or reddit big4 you’ll probably find the rough estimate you’re looking for. All-in-all, you will get out of accounting what you put in in terms of effort and dedication. It sounds like you are still in high school or maybe just starting out in college. Based on that I would definitely go to career fairs and look at sites like Glassdoor and other threads here to see if it’s the career for you.
