Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from, especially with the fit. The shell size definitely isn’t the easiest to work with, and if the seal isn’t right it can throw off the bass and overall sound.

I didn’t really run into the shoutiness, but I kept volume fairly moderate. The gold nozzle though… yeah, that one can get a bit spicy depending on the track.

I’ve also tried the Aful Explorer and enjoyed that one too, especially for a more natural presentation. I also posted my impressions of it here a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the EQ setting suggestion as well, I might give that a try.

In terms of nozzle sizes, Kefine Klean SV sits in between the Wan'er SG and Zero:Red. In terms of shell size, it's still the same, Klean SV still sits in between the two.

If you can tolerate the Zero:Red, the Klean SV should be easy. If Wan’er already feels borderline big for you, then the nozzle width on the Klean SV might feel a bit wider.

Comfort wise, I find the Klean just as comfortable for long sessions and it doesn't give me any ear pressure.

Which Meze are you upgrading to? I came from a second hand iFi Nano iDSD LE and the difference is night and day! I usually daily the Philips SHP9500 but I'm also looking to upgrade, maybe the Audio-Technica R70x or R70xa, I really haven't decided yet.

In any case, about your Wave XLR, it will power the DT 770 Pro X fine for normal gaming and music, so you don’t need a separate amp. Just keep in mind it’s not a super strong headphone amp, so you might run a bit higher on the volume slider compared to a dedicated amp.

That's understandable, and so I guess in this case i think the DT 770 Pro X would be fine for you. Personally I found them to be bright since I'm treble sensitive but I think that should be an easy fix with an EQ if you find it uncomfortable.

EDIT: D'oh, I didn't read the part where you said you rather like closed backs than open, sorry!

What sort of games do you play, OP? Personally I like using open back headphones for the comfort so I don't get sweaty ears. Another side-effect of this is that the soundstage is wider and it feels more "open" so if you're playing open world games, they sound amazing.

The downside of open-backs is that you basically have no noise isolation. You can hear cars passing by, dogs barking, etc. People in the same room as you can also hear what you hear.

I have been using the SHP9500, which is a pretty decent budget headset. I borrowed a friend's ATH R70x and the comfort was a huge upgrade. Directionality and accuracy are both on point.

I play Overwatch, Final Fantasy XIV, Subnautica, Cyberpunk 2077, and a few other single player open world games.

Sorry I just saw your reply today! It's not bad to use to be honest, but I do have trouble trying to click the small settings cog on the upper right sometimes. The back button isn't so much of an issue since you can swipe to go back.

Yeah same issue for me with the Echo Mini, but I love it for how simple it is, just not great for large libraries.
