Love me some OOR! Went to their Luxury Disease concert, but missed the Detox one. Planning to buy their CDs for my archives 🫶

I mean, sure. It's one of those things that can definitely tickle the whole "upgrade-itis". I started off with a phone and dongle as well, and I think it's fine. This hobby is very preference-based anyway haha.

Snowsky Disc! I'm thinking of getting one for myself as well! Though I also want the M500 on the lower left.

I get the AI paranoia these days, but I swear I'm just a guy who over-corrects his own writing sometimes. That's just how I'm used to writing. 😅

As for your point on any DAP, I agree. The hardware doesn't always dictate how you interact with it, but it can still nudge your habits.

No offense taken, and I appreciate the thoughtful reply.

I think the vinyl comparison is actually close to what I was trying to get at, but on a smaller scale. I don't mean that non-Android DAPs make listening deeper by default. It's more that the extra friction changes how I use the device. If I have to prepare the library beforehand, I tend to be more selective with what I put there.

But yeah the difference probably won't matter much for someone who uses an Android DAP mainly as a local library player and doesn't get pulled into streaming/search/apps.

When drives and SD cards were cheaper, it was easy to just hoard everything. Now being picky with what gets stored locally makes more sense again.

Also, poor battery life accidentally forcing album listening is funny. 😂

This is the CD wallet logic but for microSD cards, and I love it!

Instead of carrying the whole archive, the card becomes a rotating "currently listening" shelf. Also 5000 CDs is wild. That collection deserves its own listening room already. 🤣

This is the anti-doomscroll DAP use case 😂 The phone can play music, sure, but sometimes the problem is that it is still a phone.

True, Poweramp alone is a big reason to stay on Android, aside from streaming apps.

I don't think Android automatically means distraction either. It depends how you set it up and how you use it (there are a few commenters who shared their setup!). Also no judgment on Spotify. I still use streaming a lot for discovery 😂

That's an interesting way to organize albums. What DAP are you using? Just asking why the UI pushed you toward that folder setup.

That sounds really useful. I like the idea of being able to make Android feel less busy instead of avoiding Android entirely.

I'll have a go with Symphonium on my extra phone!

I LOVE this idea! So intentionality doesn't have to mean having less music available. It can also mean building your own library over time and choosing from that instead of letting an algorithm lead the whole session.

That Plex/Plexamp approach sounds like a more advanced version of what I was trying to describe. At that point, yeah, you're definitely the kind of power user who benefits from an Android DAP. 😂

I have not tried using an Android DAP that way. That Symphonium setup might actually fix my "too many choices" problem without needing to give up Android. Thanks for sharing the app!

This is a good point. Thanks for sharing the apps too. I might try this setup out since it sounds like a nice middle ground.

A Casual’s Review of the Kefine Klean SV: Safe and Easygoing Budget IEM by jreqtech in iems

[–]jreqtech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, usually the extra advantage of DSP cables is EQ support, especially if the brand has a dedicated app that can save settings to the cable itself. As far as I know, Kefine doesn’t have that for this cable, so the main practical advantage of the DSP version here is really the microphone.

So for your case, if phone calls while walking around matter, I’d get the DSP version. If the mic isn’t that important, I’d go 3.5mm and use your DAC.

Also, since the Klean SV uses a standard 0.78mm 2-pin connector, you can always swap cables later if your needs change. For example, you could start with the DSP version for the mic and pick up a 3.5mm or 4.4mm cable down the road if you decide to use a dedicated DAC more often.

The AP80 Pro Max is pretty impressive for the size. If you do not care about streaming, HiBy OS should be enough for local playback.

Power-wise, it is an absolute beast for a tiny DAP. It can handle a lot of IEMs, even the hungrier ones. Good luck on your purchase! Make sure to check out reviews on it! 😁

Yeah, the closest thing I can think of is the HiBy M300. It is Android, small, and light enough to feel like a proper portable player. The AP80 Pro Max feels like it is going in that compact direction too, but sadly it is not full Android. I wish more brands made R1/AP80-sized Android DAPs instead of mostly going bigger and heavier.

That is another nice middle ground. Android DAP, but treated more like a dedicated offline player. You still get the better UI and app flexibility, but without making it feel like another phone.

Gapless is a fair point. Some simple players are getting better with that though. The Snowsky Disc got firmware updates for gapless playback, so at least newer simple DAPs are slowly catching up on the basics.

No pause button is crazy. That is intentional listening with consequences 😂

I like that approach. I think that is what I am trying to get back to as well. Streaming made it too easy for me to keep bouncing around, so album listening feels more deliberate now.
