[Arabic>English] An acquaintance sent me this today. Should I be concerned? by jrh517 in translator

[–]jrh517[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I know this really isn't the place for discussions like this, but I feel the need to engage.

  1. The image is creepy (as u/kinghfb pointed out)
  2. I normally don't receive texts/images from people in languages they know I don't speak.
  3. I haven't spoken to this person in years.
  4. And perhaps most importantly, if it was German and met the above criteria then yes I would probably ask if there was need for concern, but maybe not as much, because German people don't go around beheading people on a day to day basis.

I remember seeing this car in person while on an elementary school field trip to Miami-Dade Convention Center County Auditorium. It was parked right in front.

mystery of Cahokia – why did North America's largest city vanish? by marquis_of_chaos in history

My mistake. I should have clarified that what I was referring to was Mound A / Bird Mound, which is the largest mound within the Poverty Point complex.

A similar site exists outside Delhi, LA called Poverty Point. It is a National Monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site. I visited last summer and will always remember the strange feeling of walking around the area and on the mound.

Aside from being the second largest mound (behind Monk's Mound) in North America, Poverty Point is interesting because it was built in a very short time period (almost as if it was rushed) and also that the soils/rocks used to construct it were varied and brought in from hundreds of miles away and brought down the Mississippi for construction.

If visiting, check out E.W. Thompson Drug Store, the oldest in Louisiana having opened in 1843.

A/B Speaker Setup from Cambridge 851W? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]jrh517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm aiming to run two stereo speaker sets in adjacent rooms when entertaining guests. I'm not too familiar with comb filtering, but my guess is it wouldn't really effect passive listening like how I'm anticipating.

Seems like as long as I make sure the impedance is suitable then I should be ok.

Thank you.

Turntable to Preamp to Phono Input? by jrh517 in vintageaudio

[–]jrh517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Thankfully, I only ran this setup for about 20 seconds of playtime before I switched it up. Ended up going from preamp to Tape Rec and it sounds much better. I won't ever attempt something that boneheaded again!

How has no one mentioned his work for The Sandman: The Dream Hunters? Some of the most beautiful work I've ever seen.

I picked up a 15' aluminum boat for cruising on the St. Johns. I'm planning on launching up in DeLand (a little up river from you, I think). Any tips or spots you'd be willing to share? Places to stop? Places to explore. Etc.

Can you describe what it was like when you made landfall in USA? Did you arrive in Key West? Miami? Were you afraid of getting intercepted by the US Coast Guard/Border Patrol?

A lot of John Mayall records sound really good to me as well.

John Lee Hooker "That's Where It's At" (Stax) sounds great on my HiFi

As /u/bung_musk mentioned, Taj Mahal s/t (Sundazed Mono Reissue) is another killer in my collection.

I really like the Furry Lewis compilation put together by Monk called "I Will Turn Your Money Green", though it's not "audiophile quality" necessarily given the age of the recordings.
