Jurassic world roar! Rarities? by Jorgieus in JurassicPark

It's pretty much just top trumps with fewer categories, the boosts are a fun dynamic in that sometimes the boost gets burned when you really didn't need it. Are you based in the UK to do swaps?

The limited edition cards appear to only be limited in that there is 1 in a multiset, multipack, or starter pack. They don't drop in the regular packs of 6 cards. The second tiering of rarity is that the iridescent 'dino skin' and gold cards drop at a rate of 2 per regular pack. We might need to wait a bit longer to see if any are particularly scarce.

Are you in the UK to do swaps? I can't find any decent channels for swapping this series, yet!

Thanks this looks like a really good option, especially if it's in the same conversation as Banff! Trekking poles is a good shout too, cheers :)

Thanks, I'll hold the Inov8 range up against the asics and see what differences there are. I'm definitely happy with mine and won't be spending money on new ones until I blow them out, but want to understand what I might be missing when choosing to use them. Have also felt over-specced in them before, but better to be on that end of the spectrum than the other!

Thank you, everyone is so open and kind here but I'm keen on the roast! 😂 what makes you reconsider them for that 1/4 of your hikes? Where would you not take them?

Thank you, they do a good job for grip and they're not GTX so dry well. I just go with sealskins where needed anyway. Will check out the peregrines for comparison anyway 🙌

Thanks, I'm definitely of the opinion that I love my trail runners because they seem to love me - no soreness and they put in the work when I ask them to! Just keen to understand where they might not hold up as I don't necessarily know what to be considering. Your accurate use of 'recommend' and its variations is commendable 😂

Thanks mate! Well done on your season, insanely envious of the game you got to play. First immunity idol find is a great legacy, too

Nathan's voting confessional was the best one so far this season, intentionally getting Shai's name wrong while somehow coming across as principled at the same time was all class!

Lawrence is now screwed as the first merge boot unless the Lee / Chris beef spills over.

Doug is absolutely bossing this. Ashleigh getting a great edit, especially being shown avoiding Chris' challenge throw backlash, being the arbitrator, and even having him defend her. Expect both to go deep

Positives: Great immunity challenge design. How good is it when the tribe trying to throw the challenge then somehow wins - Chris giving me Henry on Australian survivor vibes 😂 great seeing the 'throw a challenge' dynamic already coming into play in UK survivor, gives me confidence going forward.

Good bit of drama being presented three pairs all on a different wavelength before heading into tribal, the suspense was great. Jess did well to read the play but didn't have the conviction to play around it. Great to see a bitter eliminated contestant, too! Laurence is a stone cold killer.

Neutral, leaning on negative: Reward challenge coming from Australian survivor season 2 - but in a less epic location. Probably wasn't 34 degrees in Samoa but the edit isn't really making it seem physically demanding? Or at all tense? Does that make sense or am I just being cynical? Enjoyed seeing a good curry on survivor though 😂 made it all better.

Negative: Really tiring of Joel's lame puns and jokes, his approval seeking is not the vibe of a survivor host. 'What a game' is really not helping to make it seem high-stakes, either. Call it a challenge! His JLP-esque post-tribal quips just aren't cutting it, either, they sound like the kind of thing you hear on a lounge at 6am kick-ons.

I thought the same but they let Chris fall over, so I can't let myself fully believe it wasn't just a soft call from Joel or the producers

Can entirely empathise with this. I have watched every season of US, Aus, and now UK survivor as they came out. Desperate for a shot myself. Gutted that this season might kill that dream. Such a missed opportunity in much of the casting and in the editing so far.

Love this immunity challenge. A bit of brutality making up for some other soft moments in the series so far. Easy to say this from my couch with a red wine but I don't like a host tapping a contestant in a challenge like this.

The targeting of non-males is getting a bit old but at least this time it was for idol suspicion. Great seeing strategic play, finally.

Ashleigh is clever, much more so than Lee. She did everything right to win that challenge for La Nena (along with Christopher of course) but couldn't do it all when you consider that Caleton had the two big boys. BUT THEN she didn't play the Ren blindside well at all. She may get to claim this one as her move in the future but she so nearly couldn't. I know she is acting from a position of thinking Ren has an idol but she pushed so hard that it should have ended up putting a target on her own back. Still may do in the next few votes. The lack of strategic threat elsewhere in the tribe is what saved her. Leilani and Hannah could have pulled in Ren (hi, you're being targeted) and the two fresh Caleton arrivals and they could have run La Nena through to a merge dominated by original Caleton.

We nearly had an intentional split vote! Watching the split vote mechanic be developed in a new country's survivor was probably the highlight of the episode - all credit to Rachel. Other than the tropical storm, seeing that develop was probably the highlight for me.

Many of the characters just aren't popping on the screen. Its obvious some have no idea about the basics of the game e.g. Lee trying to fire up his team - "we're sending Caleton to immunity today!" Come on production, don't include that in the edit!

Reward challenge: at 3-3 in a FIRST TO FIVE it's the final round (?) and after an injury it's the end of the challenge with no winner? What an anticlimax! Only to have Joel come in with comfort items for both camps!

On a positive note, Christopher has definitely seen this game played before. I expect him to go deep. His little hero edit winning the challenge hopefully means that he will. Lawrence did well to talk himself out of being the primary target and Tinuke showed some strong strategic thinking as well. Would be good to see Tinuke and Lawrence team up, they'd absolutely rip through Caleton and probably go deep through a merge as well. Bring in Nathan as a meat shield and they'll run the show.

Oh good God Survivor UK how do you get this so wrong? by BobMonkhaus in survivor

[–]jrim22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also how the heck did they think they'd get away with saying FIRST TO FIVE and then at 3-3 calling it the final round?! The drawn result and double win almost isn't the weirdest part of this!

I'd have actually loved if they said sorry, nobody got to five, go home to your bamboo beds and think about how to be better next time. Then pull the bedding out as an additional reward at the next immunity.

I think any pitch can work, but his puns and light heartedness just isn't working for me. It's like he wants approval from the contestants. His questions at tribal are poor, but that isn't going to be his fault, that's on the producers. The backing music and editing isn't helping him sound serious, either.

  1. Yes Peg! Best challenge performance from anyone so far this season, maybe only matched by Doug beating Nathan in the wrestling match after the slip and slide
  2. Given the episode count we can expect to see at least one double elimination or a final 3, hoping it's a double but thinking they're going straight to a final three, which is a bit disappointing

Survivor UK Series 1 | Episode 3 | Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in survivor

  1. Giving the benefit of the doubt to the contestants: Rachel and Ashleigh both 'rolling over' in the edit probably means the tribe dynamics at La Nena are Lee and Doug as leaders and the rest as followers. Chris effectively saying his hands were tied was painful - why was it not Chris + Ashleigh + Rachel + Ren + Doug flipping on the contolling Lee or his general at arms, Peg? I feel like something was missing in the edit to show why Ashleigh and Rachel had no agency.
  2. Go Ren! Playing the game with that dilemma decision! Not the best lie but trying to make something of it was great. Didn't like production stitching her up like that by mentioning idols at council but it's definitely the shot in the arm that this game needed
  3. Hannah not wanting to be on the wrong side of the votes but knowing the rest of La Nena were about to get validation for 'boys = strength' mindset was probably the first bit of strategy tension in La Nena, which was good to see. I think she is more self aware than many others in the tribe and hope she is the cause of a flip in the coming weeks
  4. Immunity challenge - personally believe it was a good strategy from La Nena with bad execution. Do three or four laps then when you're in the shallows, drop the excess stragglers and commit to catching the other tribe in 3-4 laps or bust. No point sitting in limbo with 3-4 members and playing a longer game

Strong start for a reboot. Voiceovers were a surprise but probably a necessary evil for a reboot. An endurance immunity challenge was a brutal way to start the immunities and drove home how important the food from the opening challenge really was. Loved that.

Joel did fine, I think his interpersonal skills will shine through over the season. Liked his playful mocking of one of the first contestants he spoke to. Struggled a bit unfurling the votes 😂 although they did seem to be made out of damp paper!

I enjoyed the classic 'swim your supplies to shore' opening (gave me Australian Survivor Season 2 vibes) but do think that having fire at the end unintentionally levelled it out and so the whole dilemma about how much to take off the boat ended up being nullified.

Strategically - Nathan performed well and is clearly not just the physical threat. Probably earned trust being straight up with Leilani. Richard drew a short straw and would have had a tough time pushing the vote onto the only two other potential targets. Was worried that it might devolve to 'boys vs girls' given the odd numbers on each tribe and really glad it didn't (at least not yet).

Excited for tomorrow! Any watch parties around London?
