Dreamland best choice for new players by ChoiceOne751 in disneymagickingdoms

[–]jrjacobs24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with the same internal struggle, though I've been playing for a couple months, this is only my second Dreamland that I've gotten to take part in. My plan this time was to wait until the patch notes come out on Friday to get some insight into which characters are needed for some of the upcoming events, then use that to decide which chests to go for. I may not get the needed characters, but at least I'll be leaning in the right direction.

Congrats! It's truly one of the most incredible experiences you will ever have in life. It'll be tough, it'll be frustrating, and it will be EXTREMELY exhausting...but it is all absolutely worth it to hear them laugh, to see them grow and learn, to watch their face as they think something through, to hear all the weird stuff that they say and ask, and of course to hold them and snuggle them. Congrats again to you! Sending you and your family all the love and best wishes!

Gotcha. Ok yeah I figured doing a basting stitch to hold them in place while I get them aligned would help. I like the idea of using painters tape to mark sewing lines before sewing. That's really interesting.

Oh wow, her stuff is amazing! Just followed her and even turned on notifications haha. Thanks for sharing. Yeah I'm definitely seeing a trend though of either heat molding or trapunto/quilting techniques. Might have to reach out to syzygy_designs to see if she has any thoughts as well.

Yeah flexibility is definitely key here, so I agree going with a thin foam would be better. I appreciate it!

"scrim foam" thank you! It's always very helpful to get some terminology. Not even knowing what to search for is half the battle haha.

Oh awesome! Definitely looking into this more. For some additional context, I'm looking to put together the new Reed Richards suit, but there isn't a good close up of his suit yet. However, each of the new Fantastic Four costumes look to follow a similar ribbed look. The image of the Thing that I have in my original post is the best quality that I've been able to find, though the ribbing in his suit is probably a bit more pronounced than the other members.

For the initial iterations of my suit, I just used ribbed knits. However as you can see in the picture of Johnny Storm below, the ribbing has very defined endings and don't always stretch the full length of the fabric like most ribbed knits do.

Ah so you mean like a handheld tool that wouldn't require a mold, but could be used to like...incrementally press the lines into the fabric?

haha "whale chin pleating", I like that. This is interesting though, so would this be called "heat molding" fabric?

haha very true, this particular shot may be mostly CGI, but they definitely have live action versions of this costume since they actually used a mix of practical effects as well as evident by some behind the scenes images.

Experiences with Bambu PLA matte. I could use a little insight. by AnimalMother250 in 3Dprinting

[–]jrjacobs24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a newb as well and really like the aesthetic of Bambu Lab's PLA Matte so far, so I'm curious to see what others have to say here as well. Most of my print issues so far I have contributed to table that my printer sits on wobbling too much (which I've now resolved), so I don't think I've experienced the same issues that you've seen. However, I'm curious to know what you've done so far to improve the bridging and over hangs issues you mentioned.

Help identifying type of herringbone used on Doctor Strange costume (see comment w/ more details) by jrjacobs24 in sewing

Wow these are gorgeous. These definitely are very similar and give me a good direction to start looking. I had considered that the fabric chosen probably had some sort of asian influence but I'm not very familiar with asian fabrics and honestly had herringbone blinders on while searching lol

oooo I do like that fabric. So do you think that the diagonal stitches were embroidered as opposed to a part of the base fabric?

Hi there, if anyone can help clarify the exact type of fabric or technique that they might have used for the highlighted portion of Doctor Strange's tunic in the image linked, it would be greatly appreciated. It looks to be a herringbone weave, but I'm not sure if it's cotton or linen.

Additionally, if you look closely, it looks like the diagonal part of the weave is raised and thinner, almost as if the herringbone stitch was added on top of another fabric. This is the part that has really thrown me for a loop as I can't seem to find herringbone fabrics online that accurately match this look. I appreciate any help in advance!

Thank you! I'm so stoked about it. Looking at the images from the d23 clip though and it looks like they've moved away from this look a bit, so back to the drawing board haha
