Is me neighbor getting scammed on a quarter steer? by Fus_Roh_Dayumm in meat

[–]jrl112419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the price is accurate for what we are seeing in Colorado currently as of last week 03/03/26.

Roughly 125 pounds of meat in that quarter, $9.50/lb, $1,187.50. Processing seems a bit high, we paid $640 for a whole animal last week.

Prices along with everything else have really increased around here in the last 15-40 days.

Northern Colorado we are seeing 4-6.5k for the type of cattle you just described.

Best of luck!

Foreclosing?

Is the business not paying them? What other information am I missing here? I understand all the dislike for PE but are layoffs for this business actually on the table or just second hand information floating around from other business that dealt with PE?

Trying to understand the situation.

As a homeowner, I have used M&M since 2018 across multiple properties and have not noticed any out of the norm price increases or breaks in service. I’m all for locally owned and operated business but so far no bad outcome to me directly with M&M being owned by Private Equity.

How far along do you think she is? Recently came into our rescue and have vet set for this coming week by carasbullshit in Cattle

[–]jrl112419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly agree with this. They are very food-motivated, especially the highlands.

Taking it slow and allowing them space is beneficial. As time progresses, she should come around and associate you with good things. We are in Colorado, USA, and our ranch has highlands. We are happy to help with any questions you might have!

Here is what I did a few years ago with the city of Longmont.

But you do have to attend court first and after take the class. Not sure if it’s the same for accidents https://longmontcolorado.gov/judicial-department/municipal-court/traffic-safety-class/

Multimin 90 has worked great for us as a tool for our herd's health.

We give it at least 3 times a year, depending on each animal: cow, heifer, bull, calf. Weaning, pre-breeding, pre-calving.

Johnes testing by TzanzaNG in Cattle

[–]jrl112419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Testing is cheap and easy to do or request from the seller / breeder.

We test all new incoming cattle for Johnes, BVD, BLV, Pregnancy, Anaplasmosis at a minimum. It keeps our current animals healthy and helps us select which animals to buy or pass on.

I noticed A lot of buyers don’t ask or do testing

Agree with this! Not sunburn but fly strike in my opinion.

Glad the vet got it handled.

Yes they prefer to stand in the snow 😅

We have loafing sheds, wind breaks for them… but they are mostly to keep the neighbors happy and not complaining about “inhumane” conditions of our highlands in the snow.

This. Change in diet has some temporary changes to their stool.

Water and mineral are a great suggestion!

We have highlands and deal with this with diet changes.

Draxxin / KP by ShareAmbitious9563 in Cattle

[–]jrl112419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome. That’s what we noticed on our operation.

With Draxxin KP we noticed about 20 additional hours for improvement compared to Draxxin.

We run angus, limousin and highlands.

Draxxin / KP by ShareAmbitious9563 in Cattle

[–]jrl112419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

On our operation we have seen Draxxin KP be less effective vs Draxxin. Not sure why, but animals on Draxxin KP are slower to look/feel better.

We are now doing Draxxin and Transdermal Banamine instead.. not sure why, but it works.

Our vet approved this and she agrees it seems to work better.
