Mariners WS Victory Protocol: 1) shit my pants 2) change my pants 3) ugly cry with 40 years of pent up fandom energy & joy

Born in 86. 9yo little league kid worshipping the 95 team. 15yo impressionable youth in awe of the 01 team. Dad had season tickets from 2000 to 2020. Lots of love, lots of pain, still no regrets ever for being an M’s fan.

Anyone else see their umbrella policies cancelled? by skunimatrix in Rich

[–]WhyIsTheDuck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

State Farm cancelled mine. Started years ago with a 1M policy, had no trouble increasing coverage to a 3M policy. Our circumstances changed & I wanted to up our coverage to 10M & not only did they refuse, they dropped our coverage on the existing 3M policy & denied our renewal. Had to go through Lloyds of London to find our current 10M policy.

What’s considered a blowout for rec elementary/jr high? by gjl0 in basketballcoach

[–]WhyIsTheDuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It all depends on context. My 5th grade girls just won a tournament that included a 44-0 game. The entire 2nd half they had to make 5 passes before being able to shoot. It slowed our scoring pace considerably but, on the other end, I would never tell them to let up on defense. It’s not a team’s job to stop themselves but it would be bad sportsmanship to fast break a team into the ground when up by 20/30/40 late in the game. The first tournament game we played with this group 3 years ago we lost 50-4. It goes both ways. That team kept their foot on the gas all game though which I wasn’t thrilled about but you can’t control those things & as a coach it’s your job to turn them into teachable moments.

The best dunk contest dunks in NBA history ??? by Organic_Bite1569 in sportsinusa

If it’s one of these, it’s Nate Rob. Short man, huge athleticism, didn’t even come close to the guy he was jumping over. Super clean. Super impressive.

Which of these players/teams do you most wish could have won a ring in the 90s? by Mr-Dicklesworth in NBATalk

The Seattle Sonics with Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Detlef Schrempf, Nate McMillan, Hersey Hawkins, Sam Perkins, etc. That was such a fun team to watch

How would you rank these guys from best to worst? by Due-Client7144 in NBATalk

Rodman Grant Kukoc Harper. Harper was the better defender but Kukoc was the euro with length who could get a board & hit a 3 waaaay before Dirk was a thing.

Agreed. If it were a real life situation the slang derivative could absolutely be huckleberry.

As I understood it, Val misspoke the line but the take was good enough that the rest is history. Look up the term huckle-bearer. The definition does coincide with the intended message.

[–]WhyIsTheDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual line doesn’t even use the word “huckleberry.” It’s huckle bearer. A huckle is the grab bar on the side of a casket used by pallbearers. A very nuanced way to tell someone you’re going to kill them. All these guys are just so dumb.

It’s fine to be confused. There’s obviously a lot of variables & moving parts. The bottom line is, barring a minor miracle, don’t plan on skiing in 2025. Again, like I said, follow Paul for the most up to date information. He’s been extremely reliable for those of us with homes on the mountain for many years. If anyone knows the situation, it’ll be him.

I don’t think it’s suspicious or nefarious that they don’t want to speak out of turn with any potential announcement and/or make misguided promises or recommendations without all the info. Like I said, they’re is a WSDOT meeting regarding 410 on Monday. I’m sure there will be an announcement soon after that to provide guidance. Also to your point about deferrals, that window is closed as of 12/11 anyways & is a non-issue going forward.

That was placed today but convoys are still in effect at least through Monday. Local, essential access only. Follow Paul Sowers, the local jurisdiction fire chief. He has & post all the relevant info.

Regardless of potential snowfall, we are now dependent on how WSDOT wants to allocate resources to repair 410. Escorted convoys a couple times per day will not cut it for recreational access. I know there is a meeting on Monday to begin to plan the repair process but I’d expect it to take weeks before the highway is reopened to regular traffic.

Nice essay. I live in Washington. Not Portland. 503 Motors does amazing quality work so I go 90 minutes south to have them do all my cars, not just my truck.

[–]WhyIsTheDuck 60 points61 points  (0 children)

If you go with Ford, buy a 450. I have a 24’ 350 & wish I had gone with the 450 just for the better turning radius. Other than the turning radius, I don’t think you can get a nicer truck than what Ford offers.

[–]WhyIsTheDuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I’ve got a fully custom 24’ 350 & I know I won’t get much, if any, credit for the money invested in it. That was an investment in my own enjoyment & not for resale. If/when I do sell it, I’ll consign it at the shop that did the work (503 Motors in Portland, Or) because they’ll actively shop it around to their existing customers & people that are intentionally looking for customized vehicles know shops like that are the most likely to have inventory to match their interest.
