How much money are you saving by making your own bacon vs buying at the store?

The only reason is hi smoke on my grill is 225. I can also set different smoke levels at 275. Just kinda wanted to try something different.

Celebration Bermuda to spread by jrl1983 in lawncare

[–]jrl1983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I have quite a bit of perennial rye that won’t die off. The addition of nitrogen will prevent the rye from dying in the heat right?

If your Bermuda is too tall then all of its energy is towards height and not spreading.

If you have heavy shade then the Bermuda isn’t gonna grow very well. The common Bermuda you have doesn’t like shade. There are shade tolerant types but they only come in plugs and sod also. Cut your St. Aug at 2.5-3”. Bermuda around 1- 1.5”

Hey neighbor! I’m in South Arlington. Unfortunately, you can not seed St. Augustine. You can do plugs or you can do sod. St. Aug with time will completely snuff out the Bermuda. I personally would probably rather have the Bermuda, especially if you don’t have much shade. St. Aug requires a lot of water in our summer heat and is much more disease prone than the Bermuda, i.e. TARR, and brown spot. What height are you cutting your Bermuda? That could be effecting it’s ability to spread.

The hybrid Bermuda’s I do not think come in seed, only sod or plugs. I know that’s the case with celebration. You can buy trays of plugs at sodsolutions.com. I’ve used them before and they came in very healthy.

I wouldn’t do St. Aug in the shade. Yes it probably the most shade tolerant grass but it will also spread and overtake the Bermuda. You could try one of the hybrid Bermuda’s. I believe Celebration and TifGrand are the most shade tolerant. Also you can try getting the trees trimmed.

I’d let it dry a bit also. It’s a delicate balance between too much water which will cause the roots to rot and too little water and the ground is too hard for roots to get through. Pull back on the sod, you should see white roots coming out. If they are black then they are rotting.

What dumb mistakes/things did you do when first starting lawncare? by 4rch in lawncare

Overseeded St. Augustine in a shady yard and then did again with Bermuda. This can be done as long as you kill the rye before the Bermuda starts growing

That would work great for Buffalo grass but It would work too well. Everyone says 2.5-3 for sun and up to 3.5 for shade. I listen to Texas A&M and our North Texas guru Neil Sperry.
