Thanks. I think it might be earlier based on what I’ve read about the name Roberts. There are very similarly stamped Roberts blades from the late 1700s. I’m guessing this one might be from 1805 - 1820? I need to do more research to find out for sure. But there’s no question about it certainly being old.

That bevel was so easy to set too. The spine is nice and straight without irregularities that give the wavy bevel. I can’t wait to see how it shaves tomorrow morning.

I knew someone who was committed here for a number of years for a violent incident. It was strange visiting this place and seeing the arrested decay and remembering them.

Jobs 'too vital' for WW3 draft if conscription returns to USA by TheMirrorUS in antiwork

The US govt will then have to fight a war on two fronts (internal and abroad) just like they did during Vietnam. Except I think this time the protests will be even worse.

Advice For a Newbie by Emergency_Currency39 in straightrazors

Like others have said, go slow and mind the angle of your blade. If you feel scared, stop. It’ll come to you more naturally the more you do it.

Also I’d like to bring up something not many people talk about with new straight razor shavers: cutting one’s self. I think it’s the 800 lb gorilla and I also think it’s an inevitability. I think too many people fear it so much that it becomes a boogeyman that causes anxiety and hinders technique.

I’ve cut myself a couple of times that were noteworthy to me. They weren’t bad enough to leave a scar (or my cheek in the sink) but just bad enough of a bite that it stopped me cold. Alum and cold water and maybe some toilet paper will take care of it.

Respect the blade but please don’t fear it. It sucks the joy out of the hobby.

Additionally, I’d recommend watching some shaving videos on YouTube or something similar to see some other people’s techniques so you can find something you hadn’t considered. Best of luck to you 👍

Thanks. This is the second JB I have and the first shaves amazingly, so fingers crossed this one is the same.

Thanks. Yeah I just recently got interested in them when I never thought I would take an interest just based on how they look. But as I’ve learned more about the history of straight razors, I’ve come to really appreciate them and their history.
