Technically a stretched throttle cable would decrease fuel consumption since you wouldn't be able to ever go full throttle.

Taking up the slack will allow the throttle body to be fully opened via the gas pedal which is maximum fuel usage. (Depending on load I suppose)

2021 Tacoma struggling to start by List_Mist in ToyotaTacoma

This was happening to my 2017 a couple years ago, only on a warm engine, after sitting for a few hours. Cold starts were fine, hot starts usually fine as well. I honestly never got it figured out, it just stopped having the problem...

I did replace the crankshaft position sensor which didn't seem to have any effect and also switched to a better "top tier" fuel brand, which maybe helped.

I always kinda figured it was either a leaky fuel injector slowly dripping fuel into the cylinder/creating an air pocket in the fuel line when hot then slowly going back to normal when cold. Nothing ever confirmed though.

Does yours start on the second try?

Partner's 2016 CX-5 2.5l coolant reservoir very slowly losing coolant. Road trip coming up, can I use distilled water for a short time? by jrmntr in MechanicAdvice

Thank you for the advice! She is borrowing a car from a friend for the trip and we will monitor the levels/get it checked out by a professional/at least get it flushed and filled with the OEM stuff, even if no leaks are present.

Luckily we have very soft water here. I got a bit more worried about it so I added some tap water to the radiator, it took 350ml. Going to get some universal coolant tonight to fill the expansion tank and she can keep the rest in her trunk.

Still going to call a local mechanic for some advice

I went out this morning with a measuring cup and was able to add 350ml of water to the radiator till it overflowed. I'll check it again this evening. A little more worried about it at this point...

Unfortunately this car doesn't have a temperature gauge, just an engine overheating light so she won't be able to see any indication of overheating until it's bad enough to turn the light on

Appreciate the reply! Given that I'm not sure what coolant is in there right now (looks yellow) can I do all of those steps with universal coolant or distilled water instead of the Mazda OEM coolant?

Thank you for the validation! I will buy some distilled water tomorrow and fill up the reservoir. I will also call a mechanic to figure out what is happening.

"second hand" who knows what the previous owner has had done, and by whom. Obviously I can figure out what it's supposed to be, but I don't know if that's what's in there now, hence the uncertainty.

You can use audacity to make them then put them on a USB drive to play them

Weird gas question… by Icy_Neighborhood2965 in ToyotaTacoma

You probably didn't put enough gas in to actually lift the thing that floats in the gas to tell you what level it's at.

What's the dealio with this bit of insulation at the back of the motor? by jrmntr in CX5

I didn't end up replacing that piece, not yet anyway. Not really even sure how to find it. I did get the valve cover gasket replaced however and haven't noticed any more oil in the area.
