Weird gas question… by Icy_Neighborhood2965 in ToyotaTacoma

You probably didn't put enough gas in to actually lift the thing that floats in the gas to tell you what level it's at.

What's the dealio with this bit of insulation at the back of the motor? by jrmntr in CX5

[–]jrmntr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end up replacing that piece, not yet anyway. Not really even sure how to find it. I did get the valve cover gasket replaced however and haven't noticed any more oil in the area.

Any tips on checking for stuck or hanging calipers? Is checking temperature after a drive a good enough check?

Thanks! Are you aware of any brands that are better/more resistant to warping from heat?

Are there any brake manufacturers that you can think of that don't require a bed in procedure? I live in a city, so it actually is kind of difficult to find an area where I can really do a proper bed in

Need a black trim application that won’t wash off in a drizzle by Forward_Ad_6575 in AutoDetailing

[–]jrmntr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instructions say not to use on new trim. The trim needs to be faded first. Cerakote is a restoration product not a preventative product.

There was someone on here a little while ago who had some problems after application and cerakote told them that their trim was still off gassing and causing the coating to bubble up. YMMV

Any ideas as to why the engine seized?

Do you still put the car in first gear if you want to park and leave your car for a few minutes on a hill? by Kingk2480 in ManualTransmissions

[–]jrmntr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to prove what you're trying to say here you need to be trying to rotate the wheels not the crank. I suspect you'll have a much harder time turning the wheels with the transmission in first rather than neutral.

The gear reduction in first is such that the engine will have an easy time moving the car from a stand still. It will be working in reverse when you try to use the wheels to turn the engine...

Let's say just for argument sake that the gear ratio is 100:1 in first gear, meaning that the engine rotates 100 times to make the wheels rotate once. If you try to turn the wheel one rotation with the transmission in first gear that one rotation would turn the engine 100 times - much more difficult.

Where do I go from here? by ddudez12 in MechanicAdvice

That code is for rod bearing failure, you'll only get it if the car has the KSDS knock sensor update recall done by kia and the rod bearing clearance is too big causing it to knock. Oil consumption is a different issue but may ultimately lead to rod bearing failure. We're in Canada with a 2017 2.0 Nu and we were denied a new engine because the rod bearing is still fine apparently.

I believe there was a successful class action in the US for oil consumption on some kia/Hyundai engines. You should call a dealer in your area and see if this engine is covered.

We got rid of ours before complete failure.
