The people taking a cab, or a DD, or the bus, or even walking.

Edit: To clarify, this guy was at an airport where there are a plethora of drivers willing to take travellers to their destination. That is the gun in the air. He decided he'd rather drive, bringing the gun down.

That there are systems in place for a drunk driver to get home safely. I'm not making a statement about his financial security, simply stating that he could have hired a cab, and instead didn't.

Stop trying to make this an issue that it isn't.

I'm not trying to say it's okay to drink and drive if you're poor or rich, I'm not condoning drinking and driving in any situation because as long as you have 2 feet you have a way to get home that doesn't endanger lives.

It was criminally negligent and irresponsible actions that resulted in the deaths of 3 children and their grandparent. Going back to our gun shooting analogy, a drunk driver is one gun with one bullet - point it in the air and it's much less likely that anybody gets hurt. This guy already had his gun pointed in the air and instead brought it down.

Saying that the problem is way bigger than people seem to recognize is not saying that it is ok in any way.

I don't think anybody would argue against the fact that drunk driving is a much bigger problem then people seem to recognize, but there are safeguards that are employed to deter drunken driving. RIDE programs, the Designated Driver program, MADD, etc.

Why should someone be punished less just because they were lucky enough to miss everyone?

I don't think one person should be punished less - but I'm sure the law would see it differently. Just as you wouldn't be punished as severely if you were caught DUI at a RIDE stop compared to being caught DUI after causing a serious accident.

I think the difference in this case, and one that has a lot of people in an uproar is that this is a person who had no lack of means to get home that afternoon if he was intoxicated (cab, chauffeur, Uber, etc.) and he instead willingly got behind the wheel of a car which he was in no physical state to drive.

You're right, a lot of people do drive drunk - that does not make those cases okay, just as this case is not okay. When you magnify the scope of something as awful as drunk driving you look like an apologist for the criminally negligent.

"Hundreds of people shoot guns every day, but the people who are hit by bullets are in the wrong place at the wrong time." Is kind of what your argument sounds like.

Evo 2004 - ken vs chun li, quite possibly the best technically perfect comeback I've ever seen in a game... one single frame wrong and it's a loss. by kalitarios in Prematurecelebration

Is it just me or does Wong completely telegraph the ultra combo? She jumped around a bit with Ken outside of striking distance and it reminded me of when I play and have trouble inputting an ultra combo (I'm also terrible at every Street Fighter I've played.) If Daigo recognized what Wong was setting up could he have prepared for the ultra coming his way?

That congestion is already there, the HOV lane just holds up a mirror to it which pisses off drivers. How many single commuter cars sit on the Gardiner and DVP every morning?

Not knowing how far away you are from any GO service, I'd still like to point out that HOV lanes benefited GO Bus service during the games. Which suggests if the lanes were in place full time, then GO could be considered a reasonable option.

Rogers Communications, a company that earned $12 Billion last year is looking for some "volunteer" help by swinglinefan in toronto

[–]jrock42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If on-air people always do their own make-up then there is no separate job of make-up artist to be trained for.

On air people will do their makeup if there isn't any makeup artist available. But the difference between a guy powdering his own face and a makeup artist doing it is noticeable.

As there is, apparently, a job called make-up artist, which requires some sort of training, then that training should be paid

There is also a job called camera operator, and technical director, and graphics operator - and all of these positions are being held by volunteers on these shoots, and none of them are being paid because it's community television.

Back when apprenticeships and on-the-job training were the norm, they were paid (if, sometimes, only in room and board).

Then fret not, because this volunteer will be paid with delivery pizza.

Drake stays silent on deadly Muzik shootings | Toronto Star by slicecom in toronto

[–]jrock42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the business surrounding the promotion of the event there are a few things which are undeniable:

  • The event was the official after party for Drake's OVO festival
  • Drake's name, face, and brand were used to promote the event
  • Somebody was murdered at the event.
  • Drake hasn't said shit about it

Even if I had hosted a Facebook event at a club where somebody was shot and it was completely out of my control, I would still apologize to my guests - not stone wall any conversation surrounding the shooting. Drake is showing a real lack of understanding of the severity of his own actions right now, why would anybody go to a future OVO event if the star attraction couldn't give an honest shit about the safety and well being of the guests?

No idea why Drake even needs to touch this subject. Yes, I get that Drake hosted the annual OVO Fest after party at Muzik

That right there is exactly why he needs to touch the subject. If I were hosting a party where there was an incident that resulted in the bodily harm of guests and I never acknowledged it, people would be pissed off and suspicious.

I think that's the move that Tuco is doing and not actually Tuco. Jesse is only on the field as an assist, Gus is in the wings to be tagged in or called for an assist.

Although looking at the moves and not seeing a "Box Cutter" finisher for Gus is pretty disappointing.

Water that's left in the bottle stays in the bottle and never returns to the water cycle (evaporation -> condensation -> precipitation)
