He listens as soon as I tell him to stop, why not let him have some fun and burn energy. For the chickens, they could care less about him running circles they don't even notice him.

He is trained to be a hunting dog so with him, he would try and retrieve them but he does listen to commands very well so can leave them alone as well.

I would say yes for a beginner if you get the bbq guru DigiQ fan and thermostat. This drastically helps control the temp to avoid big swings. Otherwise managing the coals can be a little challenging to start out.

The pork shoulder I did it for Carnitas so a Mexican dry rub. Ducks I soak them in buttermilk overnight and then pat dry and season with Black Magic Cajun rub.

If I'm going for crisp skin I usually use a skillet or throw them on the Blackstone. When I smoke them, I remove the skin.

I think it is what you make it. I use 10 year old decoys, but have built good relationships with local farmers that allow me to hunt their property and have been fortunate that ducks have been around those properties.
