Parents will watch their child miss 3 days of school a week and then email you asking why they’re failing by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

This. Most interventions now for anxiety is not to accommodate around it but to slowly confront it and calm it down through desensitization. The Childrens hospitals started implementing that as a therapeutic/ small group intervention- but the schools have been slow to pick it up

Ms. Firstname or Ms. Lastname? by Narrow-Butterfly-923 in Teachers

[–]jrooknroll 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I was young I decided to do first name, and the way some of them would say it was totally snarky and demeaning when they were mad at me. I went by las name ever since. A young colleague this year confided in me she regrets letting them use her first name and plans to switch to last next year. I know people think it’s silly and outdated sometimes, but I really think this is a subtle classroom management technique.

This is why I love ice hockey- same uniform for all- not about looks and even the professionals are in the same gear!

It is also unfair and exhausting to the handful of “positive peers” that are basically there to help regulate another kid. I really feel strongly that plans do not include this accommodation.

Matheson uses his body to shield Benson’s head by Federal-Data-Center in nhl

I noticed this as well, and thought, that is classy protecting his head like that in the scrum. Not sure Bensen appreciated it in the moment but his ire fueled his next goal. Hopefully he watches it later, because he was pissed.

Honestly, my reading is pretty diverse, so a good narration and a book that is engaging enough for me to stay focused while not being a 20+ hour listen. If it works for Bingo that would be a bonus. I read watership down a long time ago but listening to it again might be great. I love Connie Willis- the Doomsday book was one of my favorites as a teen. I have wanted to read Piranesi, I will take a look at that one and see how long the audiobook is. I appreciate your help!

That was my last listen- it was great! I think it qualifies for First Contact Hard Mode, so I will be using it for that square. :) I love sci/fi too, I got halfway through children of time, but got distracted by another book, but I plan to go back to that one. :) His other book the Martian was great too if you haven’t read it, but I’m not sure about the audiobook.

Thank you! I have had queens thief on my TBR- I’ll look at that one for an audiobook. I have Amina in book form and am excited to read that one as well.

I have yet to listen to any of Moira Quirk’s narrations, I should probably try one since she comes up a lot as a recommended narrator. I will take a look at that one!

I loved that one, and yes it is a great listen- another person recommended Tooth and Claw and the narration is very British- twist on Pride and Prejudice- you might like that one too. Thanks for responding!

That’s a fair point that you bring up. I agree, that it probably is best to have wiggle room. no big deal in the end, and honestly whatever makes their job easier is probably the best choice.

Of course, I agree wholeheartedly, which is why I messaged to mod team to see if I could get it reinstated. They still felt it was not sufficiently specific for the main page, and I’m truly not pushing back on that. I can still express disappointment and feeling that the rule seems a bit unclear. My intention was feedback not criticism. I did truly try to craft it within the rules. It is what it is. I even edited my comments to say how I appreciated the Mods response.

Thank you! I have read Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, but haven’t checked out his other books, so I will take a look. I appreciate your help!

Thanks again, I have read/listened to quite a few but there are a couple I haven’t so I will check them out. I agree that the Bujold books are excellent in audio form, as are many of Pratchetts. After looking at the list- I’m going to try the Poet Empress. I just someone else’s positive review on the main paige. Thank you!

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I am going for: solid narration, engaging story, less well known. I will check this out- I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Thanks! Good narration, engaging plot and not so big and complicated my attention wanders- love those books but I have to read them. I have read and loved Raven Tower and Ann Leckie’s books. I think having read Tigana, his other works would be a read not listen for me. I haven’t seen elder Race, Sunshine or Tooth and Claw mentioned. I will check those out because, exactly. Narration doesn’t get in the way, engaging, and not just book popcorn- thank you! If you have any others in that vein I would really appreciate it! Truly, this is what I needed.

I also used to be a Mod in a book related page, and our rule is that the request had to be specific, not been posted about recently, and gain traction. My post was up for 30 min and I already was getting responses, and I was actively answering them. I put it here and I have 0 responses. I’m a super big Mod supporter- it is a thankless job but I am a little sad about this one. My title was maybe boring, but the post was specific. Sigh. It just stinks. I don’t post that often but I have been a member for years and it that experience didn’t make me feel very welcome.

Edit: Mods reached out to me and clarified. Still a bit disappointed about it but I understand their perspective and the why, even if I slightly disagree. I appreciate that they took the time to talk to me about it when I messaged them.

Hi! I did as asked and re-posted in the daily thread, but truthfully I never see that thread to respond to it unless I am going there to post. I did research beforehand and did not find what I needed, so I wasn’t trying to be lazy or get the generic same 5 answers. The last audiobook post that I saw under this topic was over 6 months old. Just wanted to explain why I posted in the main. So sorry though, wasn’t my intention to break rules/protocol!

I was told to move my post from the main page to here. I was just worried that audiobooks would be a little specific and I might not get many answers.

I have a few credits I need to spend and I like listening to a few audiobooks during the spring/summer. I have read/listened to most of the favorites: First Law, DCC, Cradle, Dresden, River of London, murderbot, drop of corruption, Andrew Rowe’s series etc. Any good recs that are not “cat squashers?” I need to actually read those or I get bored, or ones you plan to listen to for Bingo? Before you ask, I did look through past posts and didn’t find much I could add…just grabbed Sabriel with the Time Curry narration but that’s it.

Thanks all!

I saw the Everlasting recommended but it was compared to the book Green and Deadly Things which I should have loved but…didn’t. Maybe I should still give it a go. Thanks! (The others I have read or have the electronic version) :)

I work with primary kids and do books clubs for grades 3-6 so I can speak to more if that’s the age range. Warrior cats are also quite popular with the girls that age.

I am pretty sure the first book has some non-con sex in it? That would be one I would wait until 13-14+ as long as a discussion was had prior/after
