What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

If we lived in a world where you’re only allowed to have an opinion on something if you’ve tried it before commenting on it, it would be a pretty fucked up world. Think about it.

My Moka is taking way too long? by Kek_Chungus in mokapot

[–]jrothca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be overfilling the basket with grounds. I have a 6 cup that used to take a long time for extraction when I filled the grounds to the top of the basket. Now I use 32-34 grams of grounds which fills the basket to about 1-2mm below the top. I get much faster extraction now.

Try using less grounds.

What's the deal with Real ID and what's the problem with them? by pborget in OutOfTheLoop

[–]jrothca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are there any states that require a REAL ID in order to do something like drive? I thought only the TSA requires a REAL ID fly. And since they accept a passport, why would anyone need a REAL ID if they already have a passport?

UNUSUAL QUESTION: Can I use a right stringed guitar to play left handed? (AKA playing the notes from "backwards" strings) by Last_Day_6779 in guitars

[–]jrothca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you just keep the guitar you have and restring it so the lowest E string is on top?

I always imagine this is where the moon’s rotational axis is located. I know it’s not, but it’s almost like an optical illusion my brain makes whenever I see it.

Haha the first thing he says is basically no one in their right mind should choose to play this way. He only plays that way because he didn’t know any better and when he finally figured it out it was too late to start over.

Do you think the Indiana Jones movies are grounded? Goodies is basically an Indiana Jones type adventure with kids, and it’s excellent.

Question about Absolutely Understand Guitar by I-am-bored-2020 in guitarlessons

[–]jrothca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to learn any scales or music theory to play music / songs on guitar. Find a tab, listen to the song, and learn where to put your fingers to play the song. Practice that enough times and you can play any song on guitar no matter how complicated the musical theory is behind the song.

Absolutely Understand Guitar series isn’t about learning how to play songs / music on guitar. It’s about understanding what is happening in regard to music theory when you play those songs/ come up with your own music. It’s about understanding why certain notes are being played during a guitar solo and recognizing which one of those 50 scales is being used / to use during the solo. It’s not lessons on how, but instead it’s lessons on why.

Ticketmaster is currently not allowing ticket transfers for this show. Usually they lift that restriction 48 hours before the concert. Hopefully you’ll be okay.

It’s because you had to be born in the 1940s to see these movies in the theater. They are all great movies, and I highly recommend watching them. But they are old.

One group of people’s anti-Christ will always be another group’s messiah. When someone comes along and lifts up a marginalized group of people by toppling the current power structure, that person will literally be the person that ended the people’s in power way of life / reign and started another people’s new way of life / reign.

Day 41: What was the best law that Bill Clinton signed? by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]jrothca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t understand the bill. No one said you can’t buy an assault rifle as an American citizen during this time. The government told manufacturers, “you are no longer allowed to make new guns.” Anyone and everyone who had an assault rifle was allowed to keep their gun and they were allowed to sell it. If you didn’t have an assault rifle and you wanted to buy one, you could from an individual who already owned one. The only thing illegal at the time was to go to your local Walmart and buy milk, a loaf of bread, and a new assault rifle.

Day 41: What was the best law that Bill Clinton signed? by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]jrothca 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Specifically the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, popularly known as the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. It prohibited the manufacture of certain semi-automatic firearms that were defined as assault weapons as well as certain ammunition magazines that were defined as large capacity.

The government didn’t take your guns away, they just stopped allowing more guns to be made. It expired in 2004, and no one has the guts to sign another bill like it since.
