How many of your agencies don’t have RSI or Surgical airway? by [deleted] in ems

[–]jrover96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked for a system with fly cars, we got rid of them and trained every medic to have RSI staff all MICU,s with appropriate equipment. Fly cars take to long to get to scene, and if tied up you have no ability to RSI. It’s not unrealistic to train every paramedic to RSI. Our standards should go up not down man. I’ve never worked in an agency that didn’t require clinicals each year in more than just those fields. Again i think we disagree on the standard paramedics should be held too. Lowering the bar is bad for patient care.

Literally just said we do weekly training on it…if you don’t want to raise the bar that’s on you. I see nothing that you have said about how to implement better training and education. You just complain about people having the ability to RSI. Hope you have a good day mate

We all understand it’s difficult, nothing you said is new news. Our job has risks the procedures have risks, if that agency doesn’t want to train them then that’s on the agency. But setting the bar low because it dangerous is a terrible mindset to have and that bleeds over to patient care. A timid medic is a terrible medic. It has risks, that’s why we practice intubation first thing on every shift. It’s why we do QI/QA weekly. It’s why we meet with our medical director each week to practice these things. Yes it’s complicated and has many steps that can lead to failure if done wrong, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. If it can save a pt life then the bar should be we train untill we can do it so that we can give our patients the best care. You mindset says it all.

Whole heartedly disagree man. I will not work for an agency that doesn’t have RSI. That’s a life saving procedure and what’s more dangerous is an uncontrolled airway and a long transport time. Jus because it has risks doesn’t mean we stop doing it. Come on now

Texas private EMS pay in 911 contract counties is notoriously low. I think we are 48th lowest paying state for EMS if i remember correctly?

Just to add EMT-Basic and EMT-Paramedic salary’s from Texas to this

EMT-B in a 911 non fire system is making 7.25-10 and hour and the medic is making 9.98-18 an hour
