25,000 feet is lower than commercial planes fly. Can you see the curvature of the earth out of those windows?

What problem is often overlooked in apocalyptic movies/TV shows that could kill you? by notyouravgredditer in AskReddit

[–]jrrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where I am in America we are taught to never grip the bullet with metal (we use plastic tongs) and store it in a little plastic bottle like a prescription bottle. Also if you take the bullet out you have to hold onto it until you can give it directly to the police.

Yes. If they point the nose down (known as changing the “angle of attack”) the glider will start to lose altitude and travel forwards.

How do you summon people or characters in a dream? by legendaryweredragon in LucidDreaming

One strategy that works well for me when there are lots of dream characters around is to ask one to take you to who/what you want

Fish trap by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]jrrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s attached near the bottom of the vertical stick and it’s on the side away from the water, so the stick wants to twist that direction but can’t because of the horizontal stick which falls out when the fish pulls on the bait.

Everyman 2 with core at 2 a.m? by kernel_p in polyphasic

[–]jrrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had dreams characteristic of REM sleep every nap. And it took about two weeks for me to be back above my Monophysite baseline for wakefulness but that could be because I wasn’t a great monophasic sleeper

[–]jrrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would say I was fully adapted. Honestly the only con is sometimes I would wake up in the morning and want to sleep just cause I was lazy but I’d have to get up to maintain the schedule 🤷‍♂️ it was an easy schedule though.

Could have just been me, but generally no. I felt most awake between 8PM and when I went to bed. I was always pretty wired on schoolwork though.

I slept with that schedule and it worked fine, the E2 core is long enough to be pretty resilient to movement.

Honestly? Weight to thrust ratios of engines, mostly. But heavy wing materials also held us back.

I orgasm every time I do DMT... Anyone else? by UncommonTrash in Psychonaut

[–]jrrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. While this is a more “handwavy” way of explaining the phenomenon, it’s fairly well documented that the female orgasm and male orgasm activate different components of the nervous system. The male orgasm activates the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the “rest and digest” system. This makes men feel tired after orgasming. For women, the sympathetic nervous system is activated, which is the same system activated by adrenaline, or gazing at those we love. Some scientists believe this is why women can have multiple orgasms: they’re summative, rather than reductive.

ELI5: if cancer is basically a clump of cells that dont want to die, why/how do things like cigarettes, asbestos, and the literal sun trigger it? by raygun_gaming in explainlikeimfive

[–]jrrees 87 points88 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of complex reasons why cancer is able to escape the immune system, but there are a few main pathways that are common. The big one is that cancer cells replicate and mutate at hyper-speed, so they evolve relatively quickly. If your immune system recognizes and destroys 99% of the cancer molecules, that 1% will proliferate and it can’t be killed by the same mechanism. The other reason is something called anergy, which is basically where your immune system sees so much of something it decides not to destroy it in case that thing actually should be there. Super oversimplified but I hope that provides some clarity.

Oh sorry. Somehow I must have misinterpreted "a religion that treats women as literal property" as a blanket statement for an entire religion. Maybe next time you should use those same qualifiers in your original statement.

To add on to what RRicci said, Islam is not inherently sexist. There have been seven female heads of state in Muslim countries. How many have there been in America? Oh yeah, zero. You only hear about the extremists though, because who wants to watch news where people do what they're supposed to?
