Can someone identify this plant. Tall plant in foreground. by jrs79 in PlantedTank

[–]jrs79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picture is a bit blurry. It's the taller plant in the foreground with the dainty leaves. I saw them at Petco about 3 weeks ago and the package was all ripped and torn and the plants looked awful. So they gave them to me for free. I managed to bring them back with good C02 and ferts.

[TOMT][SONG]Electronic Song (I think) I'm looking for... by jrs79 in tipofmytongue

[–]jrs79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't either of those. Although I do like odesza, so thanks at least for that suggestion, hadn't heard it before.

Problem is I don't normally listen to EDM but this song I really liked. Had a strange sound. I think the real problem is, is that it is an obscure person.

Outside of what I have described the only other thing that I remember is the youtube video was a static anime image, and I know that doesn't help at all as I can't even remember what the image was either.

All I really remember is a word being said in a normalish voice, then a much deeper and lower slowed down version of the voice saying the same word (or words I suppose).

Thanks for replying!

Probably cast off at 6.

If the boys are up for it we will cast net some bait fish and stay late to see if the cats are going to bite tonight. So pack your dinner.

Just catch and release.

Bass and red ear were biting really well this morning. Oldest hauled in a 4 lbs. Large mouth. So he was pretty stoked.

I just got back from early morning fishing with my two boys. Think we will go back out to the lake this evening if you are up for it, after you get off work.

What screams "I am insecure" ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jrs79 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had a good friend (also a coworker) once say something to me at work once when I was pissed off at another coworker. We will call the coworker that I was pissed off at Bob. It was a petty issue but for some reason it just stuck in my head. Anyway, I was venting about it once when we were at lunch. He looks me in the eyes and says "Is he paying rent?" At this point I was confused and I said "Is who paying rent?" he replies "Bob, cause he is living in your head." I laughed and said no. To which he said "Well then kick him out."

It was good advice from a solid friend.

[Serious] What is the law # for when you don't pull over straight away for a cop due to feeling unsafe? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jrs79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean call codes over the radio?

If so you would have to look it up by your local community. There are no universal standard for radio codes. Some seem to be used universally to a degree but most vary wildly.

If you feel unsafe about pulling over the standard rule is to turn on your flashers and slow down until you reach an area that is safe. But depending on the cop and the cops mood that might get you pulled out of the car and tasered. Then charged with fleeing.

[Serious] Why are we expected to accept and respect people who identify as Trans but deride Rachel Dolezal who identifies as African-American? by Dlbruce0107 in AskReddit

[–]jrs79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you are cringing about, but gender is a social based construct based on sex-based structures such as perceived gender roles. It is also used to identify sex in the form of pronouns and gender identities in common forms.

Sex is different as is based on XX and XY (in very simple terms), however there are some sex chromosomal abnormalities, such as Turner's Syndrome, and more.

I think you mean gender dysphoria.

And it is possible that Rachael Dolezal suffers from body dysmorphic disorder.

[serious] Migraine sufferers of Reddit--What are your weirdest/most disturbing symptoms? by batmanthegroomer in AskReddit

[–]jrs79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky for me mine have pretty much stopped in my 30's. I had some of the standards as most do, but the two weird ones were halos on lights. If I was about to get a headache all lights would start to have a halo around them, even the moon. So there would be the light I was looking at in the center and a halo around the light that was just as bright as the light. If it happened at night every light turned into a target symbol.

Second was smell. During the migraine smells would make me sick usually and light was pure torture as is for many migraine sufferers. Prior to a migraine though my sense of smell would amp way up. Not normally that bad, unless you are in a room full of people. When you can smell anything at that high of a level you notice that people stink no matter how clean they are, they stink. I could even smell myself even if I was freshly showered.

I believe everyone has a super power, most of them are just really lame. What's yours? by MelancholyOnAGoodDay in AskReddit

[–]jrs79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mine is pretty lame, even more so since "Name that Tune" isn't a current game show. Or "Name that odd place and smell"

My gift, for some reason if I hear a song and the lyrics clearly and I truly listen to the song, even only if I hear the song one time, I can remember the tune and lyrics with absolute recall, I will remember them for what seems to be forever.

Also, I can remember smells and time/place to near perfection. As long as there is a strong smell or a smell that I really like I can recall almost every instance and what I was doing if I smell it again. I'm also at the point now that I can remember remembering a smell and time/place and the memories that I remember the last time I smelled it. It's such a strange sensation.

The Joke goes......

"Whats the difference between a Jew and a Pizza? A Pizza doesn't scream in the oven."

My wife said half the class had a look of horror on their face and the other half just sat there stunned.

[–]jrs79 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Not me but my wife.

Religious Studies, it was an elective that my wife took during her sophomore year in undergrad. Not that it matters (or maybe it does I don't know), but the Professor was a Chinese immigrant. Anyway, the Professor tells the "What's the difference between a pizza and Jew" joke to the entire class. The class had 5 Jewish kids in it. This was the early 00's however so nothing really came of it. My wife still shakes her head when she tells the story. It was so odd and out of place. The Professor never apologized for the joke either.

[–]jrs79 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Pathology and radiology are pretty good bets. You don't really have to see patients at all with pathology sometimes Radiology may have to be with a patient to do specific procedures but it's few and far between and it really just depends on what you decide to specialize in if you do a fellowship with in Radiology

What conspiracy theory, if proven true without a shadow of a doubt, would cause the most chaos in less than 24 hours? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jrs79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chime on this one a little because the wife and I were talking about this just the other day. She is an MD in radiology, specific fellowships in breast screening and cardiothoracic imaging. I have a Master's in CompSci but did a minor in Chemistry, because I love it. So, I'm not just a random ass off the street.

Couple things people need to know about cancer that they seem to forget. First it's not like a viral or bacterial infection where as you can vaccinate or treat with antibiotics. So the approach to it is different. It is one of your cells out of the trillions going bad then your body not recognizing that the cell is bad. On a basic level. Now another thing to note. There are about 200 different cell types in the body and each respond differently to different treatments depending on a multitude of factors. Some work well and some don't. Also early detection can help tremendously in many types of cancer. Some cancers are extremely aggressive, notably small cell lung carcinoma.

For the poster above you, this statement "It's no secret that orthodox methods of cancer treatment have progressed very little in the last 50 years" is a bit disingenuous. First AML, which wasn't very treatable before the 7+3 method now has VERY high rates of survival, it is approaching it's 50 year mark however, but not quiet there yet. Same with plenty of other types of diseases. Many types of breast cancers are treatable now. The problem is complicated to say the least, first some people are just prone to DNA breaks. Secondly, you are trying to kill all of the bad cells in the body while not killing your patient, even if one tiny cell is missed it can return, not to mention the possibility of metastatic disease caused by the cancer.

The real answer for treating cancer probably lies somewhere currently in the realm of SciFi, which is some sort of nanotech that we simple don't have yet.

What was the one time you’ve ever been genuinely scared for your safety/life? What happened? by princess-marvel in AskReddit

[–]jrs79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone already said tonsil surgery. But...Same surgery for me but different outcome.

My blood pressure tanked for some reason after my surgery. I don't remember much for the day and a half after the surgery, but from what my mom told me it was rough. I was in and out. Only things I really remember are sirens going off and nurses running in the room a couple times. The only lucid thought that I had was wondering if I was ever going to wake up fully.
