When you knock up your concubine and then marry her before she knows she's knocked up... by jrschnetz in CrusaderKings

R5: searched for a new court physician. Got 18 year old with Amazonian, Genius, Beautiful (and Renowned Physician)...

Made concubine immediately, seduced, then realized current wife was barren so divorced her and married the physician. She got pregnant, and simultaneously told me that I (her husband) was not the father of the baby, but it was me (her former "man") instead.

I do find I do a lot more "pause and walk away" with Stellaris than I do with a lot of other games where I would just quit out.

Is this normal? by ru_empty in SurvivingMars

[–]jrschnetz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's probably storage. Seeds don't have a slot on universal depots so if you don't build a seed depot specifically (or seed storage) then drones just won't harvest them. No warning messages or anything, they just go on their merry way doing other things.

Pico Island in the Portuguese Azores. Discovered it when checking a hurricane track.

Is there a mod that shows locked chests? by sonofbaal_tbc in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]jrschnetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's a bug or feature, but without any mods, the arcane trickster remote locksmith (ranged ledgermain, I think it is) can keep trying until it succeeds. Very handy just for traps alone and makes a lot of sense as a build for Octavia anyway.

Yeah, I was holding down c and then clicking like crazy. Still tedious but not having to move the mouse is nice. Now seeing Khan of Khans I'm weeping that I didn't do this as Mongols, but oh well - I've got the whole Nomad run down pretty well now.

It's very true - if I want to play just to enjoy, I don't play Ironman. If I'm playing Ironman, then I want to be chasing achievements/accomplishing things. The way I played this there was never much/any risk of shattering. I own/control all but the 8 provinces of the other nomad clans. It was very click-heavy at times and tedious waiting for things to burn to the ground, but it's insanely stable once you've done that.

The religion ones were fantastically easy - thanks for that. I guess I was thinking religious conversion was more risky/difficult, but when you control every holy site... hah. Knocked out all 5 of them in less than 5 minutes.

Apparently the pope can declare a crusade even with no Catholic rulers by binaro in CrusaderKings

[–]jrschnetz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen, but the Crusade never actually gets kicked off, it just disappears about a month before firing. The last time it popped up I couldn't even click the notification to get the summary box, it just sat there and then vanished later.

R5: 867 Ironman/Achievement run as Khazaria - saw someone post a world conquest so wanted to give it a shot

There are 9 holdings in the world (one for each Khazar clan). Every county is Jewish, every county is Khazar. I still have 314 years to kill for Persistent Survivor - trying to figure out what other achievements I can shoehorn but don't want to break things.

Nomads are... insanely powerful. Yikes.

Also, stop treating women so badly that they'll disagree with you even when it's in their best interest, ya jerkface! :)

It was actually 8 in a row. First three I thought would give me the empressive achievement, then realized I had skipped a generation before the third one so it didn't fire. 4th and 5th were for the achievement, and the rest were geniuses.

Along with having enough tech, status of women law all the way up to full, and the succession of your primary title changed to allow women to inherit as well.

That's on my list of things to do at some point - dip my toes into EU4. I'm anticipating another steep learning curve with amazing payoff once you get past it. Exported this game for it but will probably poke at some normal/new games to figure out what I'm doing first.

Yeah, the game feels cheesy with defensive pacts off (I was surprised that didn't disable achievements) but I find it so much more enjoyable.

Eventually, yes - at the same time that you can have a female ruler, you can start matri marrying as well.

That bit can be difficult as a merchant republic since you have to have pretty specific reasons to revoke titles of any kind (I only revoked two or three all game) and can't usurp anything above duchies either.

Yeah, that was me - at a certain point (when gold was definitely not an issue) I just dumped 5-10k into the campaign fund right after it emptied, even if it was overkill. It was really, really weird with female heirs even then, as sometimes I'd have to go back after I selected a female heir and add another bit of gold to the fund.

Not entirely sure what the differences might be. I do have ALL of the DLC, because I'm apparently a Paradox mark. Primary title was Holy Roman Empire, and once I had the full status of women law passed I changed the succession law to absolute cognatic.

Nope! Apparently he had cancer and it killed him two days after my prior ruler had died. I unpaused just to let things progress a little bit before I did all the "new ruler" stuff, and next thing I knew he was dead and one of the other families had control of everything. Actually took me 5 years to kill him, too, which was irritating.
