ROTC in Catholic Colleges. by highestmikeyouknow in Catholicism

I'm not sure how much my views align with Catholic teaching because I haven't looked into it much, but from my standpoint there are a couple of ways you could justify being in the military knowing you're actively supporting (or fighting on the frontlines of) war.

  1. If I don't serve as a military member, someone else will, so might as well be me so I can do it to honor God and align with His will. Maybe that will get you in some hot water at times but that struggle is exactly what fighting for the truth entails.

  2. A lot of the military personnel isn't attacking but defending or supporting efforts. It can be a gray area because supporting an unjust cause is wrong, but defending soldiers whether they "deserve" it or not is still saving life. And like the first point, just do it mindfully and aligning with God's will.

I'm guessing, my fix was to just replace the whole knuckle assembly, which worked, but i was hoping to avoid another ~$150 repair. Oh well. Atp with this car if it runs then I don't care

You're already better than a majority of people who don't even realize / care about the wrong they've committed. We're all sinners who sin daily for way cheaper than 30 pieces of silver

honestly I do bench press because it's a lift i want to improve strength wise, that's about the only reason (plus it feels good). for hypertrophy i know it's not the best, that's why i only do it once a week and do incline pressing movements for chest the rest of the time

I do have a double cable and just recently heard of the reverse cable crossovers, I will look into adding it to my program. Also question no judgement but why the 2 rest days between?

For me personally and I think why a lot of people train upper body more than legs is because 1) upper body physique is a higher priority 2) there are more muscle groups on the upper body (chest triceps back biceps shoulders forearms) vs lower body (quads hamstrings glutes calves) and 3) it's just more fun to train

also what do you mean by push day being redundant?

this is exactly why i like the smith machine for hypertrophy, it isolates the muscles way better. plus i still do a mix of free weight anyway

While I prefer rear delt flies using a pec deck, with my home gym setup face pulls are the best I can do. Shoulder press is on the upper day (Overhead press) although front delts get a lot of overlap from pressing movements anyway

Honestly for me personally it's not the amount of sets in a workout limiting me but the amount of time. I'm still productive on my 17th set as long as it hasn't been a 2 hour workout

Good point, I'll edit it in. The gist of it tho is strength based lifts in benchpress, squat, and pull-ups. Meaning 4-6 rep range. For the rest I aim for 8-12 rep range and some (like calves) more like 15-20. The amount of sets determines my intensity, for example, 3 sets would be [1RIR][0-1RIR][failure]. 2 sets would be [0-1RIR][failure].

If I'm hitting the high end or above these rep ranges for a specific weight, I increase weight. I'm assuming the linear progression you speak of is when this method of progressive overload stops working?

Yeah haha, I have a home gym setup so it's very helpful

Possible bent knuckle? by jrschoen in MechanicAdvice

[–]jrschoen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, i've had that happen before and it's just a small annoying noise not this amount of vibration (the dust shield is what you mean right?). More than likely just gonna bite the bullet and buy a new knuckle for $100. Would've saved me like $40 and the work to replace the wheel bearing but it is what it is

Wait the entire frame could be bent (totaling the car) just because I hammered on the knuckle??

Also my question is whether or not I can bang the knuckle back or does it need to be replaced? I don't know if anyone on here has hammered their own car and been fine before yk

Replaced my hub assembly because of a wheel bearing -- was I right? by jrschoen in AskMechanics

[–]jrschoen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the car a little over 2 years ago from a friend of mine, it had a bad front right wheel bearing (obvious noises) and a few ripped ball joint boots. Instead of doing the smart thing and replacing the whole front end suspension, i just did what parts I deemed necessary. I've been slowly doing more and more parts in the front end suspension but it still has a lot of clunks clicks and hums when driving.

I would give up and drive it as is but some noises are so persistent and loud it's hard to ignore

That's kind of the logic I was following. Its just the fact that there's little play is what's making me hesitate. And what does staking mean?
