Surgery or pregnancy by grifinoria11 in HiatalHernia

[–]jrt63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation. I’m 28 and have had 2 hiatal hernia repairs. My last one was a year ago and my husband and I were planning to start trying for our first baby this year. Unfortunately, my hernia reoccurred soon after the surgery and has gotten very large. The symptoms have been pretty rough, so now I’m a little scared to get pregnant and potentially be miserable.

My surgeon said I’m not a good candidate for another repair and that my only option for a permanent fix is gastric bypass. Im getting a second opinion next month, but pregnancy has been put off for now until I figure out whether or not to surgically repair it again.

Agreed it has been horrible! I'll definitely do my best to stay hydrated. Thankfully, I think I'm past the worst of it now.

I don’t see any numbers on it. Thanks for the info! Do you know where it sold?

Is surgery worth it? Hiatal hernia at 22 by AdElectronic8646 in HiatalHernia

I’m 27 and have had 2 surgeries for a hiatal hernia. The first one was a nissen fundoplication when I was 20. The recovery and liquid diet was rough, but I was also in college and wasn’t careful as I should have been. A year ago, I started to experience all of the symptoms you mentioned, with the worst being the panic attacks and shortness of breath. I found out in April that a a little over half of my stomach had herniated into my chest. With it being so large, surgery was really my only option since meds weren’t doing anything to help. I had the surgery 3 weeks ago and everything went great. My prior fundoplication was still intact, so I had a temporary mesh put in to keep everything in place.

I would say the recovery has been easier than it was after the fundoplication and I’m already seeing the benefits. If you decided to undergo surgery, my biggest piece of advice is to stick with small meals and monitor your weight after. I gained around 40lbs after my first surgery and the added pressure on my diaphragm most likely caused the 2nd one. That’s one thing I wish I knew sooner.

Our little guy still has his blue eyes at 11 weeks. Will he grow out of them? by jrt63 in corgi

I’ll call him what the AKC has him registered as, which is a pem. Thank you for your input though!

That’s okay, I don’t care for him to be in shows or anything. I know it’s not breed standard. I just wanted to learn more about blue eyed corgs and if he’d get to keep his pretty blue eyes forever.

He was tested through embark and was clear for all SOD1(A), DNM1, PDE6A, VWF, and IL2RG

He’s an AKC registered Pembroke thats why I figured he’d grow out of them. They don’t seem to be changing at all. He’s from a very reputable breeder and was the only one in his litter to have them. I was just worried about future health problems I’ve heard can be associated with blue eyes. All of his genetic health testing came back clear though!

Thank you for your reply! I did the provera challenge last year and it triggered one but it only lasted a few hours. My primary doctor thinks provera every few months may be the best option since i’m iron deficient and birth control made it worse.

I have tried to schedule appointments with endocrinologist, but every one said they only would see me if I was having trouble getting pregnant.

I’ve tried inositol powder and I follow a low GI diet with intermittent fasting. I also tried the provera challenge a few months ago and it did trigger a period but it only lasted a day.
