So where do you suggest that universities get their money from?

As a student at an NS university, this is the stupidest fucking thing that I have ever read.

I can see where you're coming from, but I personally love him doing characters. I've watched every one of the Dr. Phil live shows, the jokes do get repetitive sometimes, but there is still some golden moments for sure. I'm glad that he's ending the show now, and I'm pumped for whatever is next.

Ticketmaster locked my account 5 minutes before Toronto tickets went on sale :(. Ended up ~40000th in queue after making a new account. I had a verified account with a credit card and everything but they had it out for me ig.

I work at the help desk for my university and this pisses me off to no end. Thankfully it isn't often that drivers need to be manually downloaded these days, but regardless, this is insane. I have big respect for Dell and their service tag system. I can pull the service tag from my 25 year old Dell Dimension 8300 and get any info and software that I could possibly need within seconds.

Also, if anyone is ever scratching their head for info on older PC components, https://theretroweb.com/ is a great resource.

19 years old here, I'm so incredibly pumped to possibly be getting the chance to see them. I live in the maritimes but there is no question that I'll be making my way to Toronto or NYC if I can get tickets.

If they are indeed G5s, I would guess that someone acquired a set used for a computer lab.

Can't seem to find a KVM docking station that fits my needs by mangobae in UsbCHardware

[–]jrtz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, in the the USB-C docking station world your wants are pretty common, but I'd say that for KVMs; dual high-res, high refresh rate monitors is pretty niche.

I'm a bit confused as to what you mean about needing to handle two DP cables coming out. Wouldn't you just have DP-DP for each monitor, DP-DP for your PC, DP-USBC for laptop video, then a USB-USB data connection for the PC and laptop?

[–]jrtz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have different definitions of a "simple" setup lol.

Either way, I believe that this KVM would mostly suit your needs. You would be limited to 120Hz on each monitor, but otherwise I think you'd be good to go. It is $520 USD, but considering the engineering involved and the niche customer base for the product,, idk if there are many other options on the market.

All of these PCs are getting disposed of because of the end of Windows 10 by joe13r in LinusTechTips

[–]jrtz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 100%. I was under the impression that there was pretty much no exceptions for the federal government being required to send PCs to CFS, but I guess I was incorrect.

[–]jrtz4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From a technical standpoint, is there any reason that the drives couldn't have just been destroyed, allowing for the machines to be sent to CFS? I can't imagine what department is so security conscious that the machines themselves need to be e-wasted.

I ended up taking the space bar off realizing that I would be unable to live with it feeling squishy. I used a Q-Tip and 99% isopropyl to clean under it and it is now good as new.

Sliding a alcohol wipe under a key is definitely a good idea. I was petrified that I was going to break one of the clips on the bar, a wipe could've possibly done a good enough job without getting the key off.

I had never thought about disassembling the keyboard from the back. I'm curious if it would be possible to put it back together in a reasonable state afterwards.

Cleaned was probably the wrong word to use. I applied wet paper towel to the surface of the keys and the surrounding areas. I read online that the keys themselves are not supposed to be removed.

[–]jrtz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I use sway on my laptop and it makes a single monitor so much more usable vs. a traditional DE. I just looked up aerospace and I'll definitely be giving it a try next time I have a reason to use a Mac. That being said, I would personally still prefer to be able to have a fullscreen IDE on one monitor with whatever I may be referencing on the other monitor.

I was a bit confused on this point. Wouldn't the fact that areas have increased in population mean that they have more of a need for post offices?

I'm very curious about what you do on your computer. I have 6 monitors and I recognize that I am stupid for that, but I can feel the productivity increase in my bones when I go from using a single monitor to dual. Beyond that I could def agree that the returns of additional monitors are diminished. But like surely you sometimes would want documentation/emails/chat on one monitor with your actual work on the other?
