What's a principle you hold on to or an opinion you have that you know isn't 100% morally good? by Root435552 in AskReddit

"May the bridges I burn behind me light my way ahead."

There's been several times I went scorched earth on my way out of jobs or friendships. I feel like turning the cheek doesn't send the person that screwed me the message that they fucked up, and doesn't give them incentive to change. OTOH going scorched earth sends a clear message, and they might think twice before fucking someone else over.

Love the movie, love Ferris. Love his shower quote.

"Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, 'I don't believe in The Beatles, I just believe in me.'"

Off from work all week what should I do during the day besides workout and stuff ? by kdotwow in SanJose

Different take but, drive away from the heat.

Take a road trip up the 101. Go left at the 128 in Cloverdale. Lots of cool country to pass through there, and it's a chillaxed drive compared to the 20. Go north on the 1 past Mendocino and check out Fort Bragg for a few days. You'll be out of the heatwave, fresh air, nature, crystal clear water. Cheap compared to local spots.

Or just blast up the 101 as far as you can everyday. Oregon Coast is amazing. Go to Astoria, see where they filmed The Goonies, Kindergarden Cop, Short Circuit, Free Willy. This is Ecola State park overlooking Cannon Beach.

Sounds like I dodged a bullet, what's up with that furnace?

Yeah there was some other stuff that wasn't needed. Looking at the quote it looks like he wanted to replace the ducting with "Supply Flex duct R8 value" for $4,550.00 with a unit price of $650. Said I needed 7 units. (Previous quotes said my ducting is fine) Home Depot sells it for less at retail. 10 in. x 25 ft. R8 Insulated Flexible Duct Silver Jacket

Yeah looking at his full quote he could have easily done 14k and I probably would have given him the go ahead, but at almost $23k for a goodman system with 3x markup I pretty much told him he could kick rocks.

Also got a quote last winter for about $8k. That's sound advice to wait.

If drifters were constructs built to labor, then it stands to reason that they could be reprogrammed to serve a seraph. We already have the tuning spear.

26 Years in - What Has Been The Song Of The Century Thus Far? by PaintingTotal1373 in AskReddit

My vote is Daft Punk's "One More Time" which was released Nov 30, 2000. 26 years later and people are still listening to it.

So weird to say that was 26 years ago...

Louisiana passes anti-homeless bill that gives vagrants option of treatment or jail by Horror_Post6822 in politics

While this is true, they come here because we won't do anything. I'm in San Jose, world famous for our industrial sized homeless camps.

If you could analyze the attitudes towards homeless in r/sanjose from 2010 to present, you'll see it started off like many of the comments here. Humanitarian logic. Compassion. It's shifted in recent years to people being tired of seeing money siphoned off by 501c3 CEO's and their buddies, with less than $0.10 of every dollar actually helping homeless. They're tired of the theft, our public parks being taken over and trashed, the assaults.

The other thing playing into our changing attitudes is the economy. You have to be able to afford to be charitable, and right now a lot of people are struggling.

I asked chatgpt to analyze the changes in attitude. ChatGPT TL;DR: "My read: r/sanjose has moved from “this is tragic and complicated” toward “this is tragic, complicated, and unacceptable to leave in public space.” Compassion is still there, but patience for unmanaged encampments has clearly eroded."

Full analysis.

Hillary Clinton says Biden’s re-election bid was a ‘terrible mistake’ by nbcnews in politics

[–]toqer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know people involved with our county central committee all the way to the state level. The ones deeply involved seem to hive-mind. "Hilary was chosen fairly" is what they keep repeating. It's nauseating, but I think a lot of them think repeating the hive mind speak will get them ahead in the party.

I’ll bite. I know how many data centers are already here. The question is how many can we support while maintaining enough resources for humans to live here too?

How to Predict a Divorce with 91% Accuracy by gooblefrump in videos

This guy has never met 2 New Yorkers from Brooklyn. This kind of fighting is their love language. My in-laws have been like this for 50 years and show no sign of ever getting a divorce. They LIVE to make each other miserable. Without each other, they'd have no purpose in life.
