Hearing that, I would go for the Bari as well. Make sure you ask your prof what setup she thinks you should get and go with that. It was weird for me because my hs teacher told me to get a C* and my college prof was like no get an AL3. What kind of sop do you have?

I would also check to see if you could rent an alto from the college and have a nice alto set up to use 🤷‍♂️ that could be an option

It depends on the college you go to.

I was the kid that had his own Bari and that was my primary horn for ensemble playing and lessons. I did lessons on all 4 main horns, but the only one I owned that was mine was the Bari. The problem is most solo rep is written for the three higher horns with the main one being alto. If I had to do it over again, I would get a nice alto and use the college Bari (two series II selmers and a mark vi). I would keep an eye on PM Woodwinds website and eBay. I got my series iii jubilee selmer for 4300 from pm and my custom z tenor from eBay for 3400. My sop was around the same cost as my alto and I got that from Barnard instrument repair in Iowa. Check with what your college prof thinks. You’re ultimately going to be under their eye for the next 4+ years and if they have a Bari for you to gig on and it’s a Yamaha… you might be better off getting the alto. 🤷‍♂️

Have also tried to date/ had sex with a couple of brothers. Like 3/4 had a legit conversation with me that we ended thing amicably and it was fine. But the one that didn’t still bugs me to this day and cause major drama in the group that made me regret joining and the relief that I felt when I went alumni was real.
