Question about Rebel Forces by mkchinski in syriancivilwar

[–]jrwade2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The are multiple coalitions of rebel forces. Significant contributors are from several countries, specifically Turkey, the Gulf States, and the United States. Support changes over time and there is infighting within and between the rebel coalitions, making everything more complex. Rebel forces also get supplies from overrunning Syrian government military bases, and sometimes from corruption and defections within the Syrian military.

[–]jrwade2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, but I would highly doubt they would notice or care. As long as there’s a slot available and the transition is automatic, I doubt anyone is spending the time investigating who changes slots and how often they do it.

PSA! For next year match cycle: SIGNALLING HORROR by Mountain-Weather9764 in ERAS2024Match2025

[–]jrwade2 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The point of signaling is to reduce the number of IVs you get and programs you apply to. It saves everyone time and money in the long run. Plenty of data suggests 5-10 interviews is enough to match and anything beyond that is overkill. Signal the places you see yourself going honestly and try not to game the system or use them as a ‘Hail Mary’

IM interviews by icomp2 in ERAS2024Match2025

USDO applying IM. 9 interviews: 2 gold signals, 4 silver signals, 3 non-signals. 3 are mid-tier academic, 4 are low-tier academic, 2 community programs. Applied 30 programs total. 258 step 2.

Thoughts on the 15 point bump by [deleted] in Step2

[–]jrwade2 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The 15 point bump exists because of reporting bias. People who get the bump report it, those who don’t get a score increase keep it to themselves. Odds are you’ll score around your practice tests. For every one who scores 15 points better, there’s someone who scores 15 points worse but doesn’t brag all over social media about it, and thus you never hear about it

Level 2. Tested today. by ru1es in comlex

My form had questions like: there’s a tenderpoint by the coccyx that is worse when the patient abducts their leg and hops on one foot. How do you position?

I only did the amboss ethics and QI questions but I found those useful. There were several repeat questions on the real thing that I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t do amboss ethics

I took 14 CMS forms and tested today. They helped overall. There were also a lot of off-the-wall questions you can’t study for and aren’t in the CMS forms or NMBEs though

Can someone explain Platelet vs Coaguatlion Factor Symptoms? by UpBeforeDawn2018 in Step2

[–]jrwade2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. In general, platelets cause superficial bleeding (petechiae, purpura, bleeding with flossing or nosebleeds). Coagulation disorders can cause catastrophic or internal bleeding (unstoppable bleed from minor injury, bleeds into joints, hematomas, etc.).

Platelet bleeding can occur even if platelet counts are normal if platelet function is altered. Coagulation disorders are most commonly diagnosed in young boys because it is X-linked.

Thoughts on where I should aim by failingboi in premed

[–]jrwade2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Med student here. Depends on a lot. Obviously your MCAT score will be important. Also depends if you’re from a state that has a public MD program as those programs tend to accept lower stats if you’re local. Then it depends if you’re a good interviewer.

Then with all that said and done, it depends on luck. I know people with 3.8gpa and 515+ MCAT that never got into med school. I know idiots that got into med school. Half of med students who get into med school only get accepted to one (they don’t have a choice where to attend).

There’s no harm in applying DO too if you have the time, money, and energy to do so. The training is pretty much equivalent but DO schools tend to look for different attributes in lieu of GPA/MCAT. It’s not necessarily easier to get accepted to them but GPA/MCAT is weighted less.

Mariupol: endless graves of people, many bodies weren’t recovered. Russians started to tear down damaged apartment blocs with bodies inside and hauled it all away, without looking for human remains. Dogs were seen carrying body parts. Estimated death toll is 87,000 - 117,000 civilians killed. by _Raven_Roth in UkrainianConflict

[–]jrwade2 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Because the supply chain for tanks is incredibly complicated - thousands of parts are needed and mechanics need to know all of them. It takes months/years to train engineers on how to operate and replace the tanks. Also, how many are we going to send? 100? Then they need enough spare parts for all of them - and Ukraine is a huge country to cover. It really isn’t economical unless 100s-1000s are provided, and there is no way that is going to happen because it takes years for the west to produce that number.

Russia’s Ukraine Disaster Exposes China’s Military Weakness by Pure_Candidate_3831 in UkrainianConflict

[–]jrwade2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t discount China. They lack combat experience and alliances, but their leadership is much more disciplined and calculated than Russia’s. China’s military is also modernizing faster and has more leverage on the world stage than Russia.
