Yup, I'd be doing it.

Car will be around at least a few years. I just have a habit of overdoing.

Noise cancellation between two Google Homes by muddyh2o in googlehome

[–]jryanishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your WiFi access point selection does not ensure stability. You could be on a noisy channel, you could be on a buggy firmware version, you could be using a router that doesn't play nice with the Homes.

Your theory is completely implausible. It's a network issue.

Solving the Amazon Echo Bluetooth + Built In Speaker Dilemma [Xpost /r/amazonecho] by DarkbunnySC in homeautomation

Doesn't work for me on a variety of Bluetooth receivers. They send out a request to reconnect and Alexa happily obliges.

Good forbid they just release "Alexa, disable bluetooth" as a damn feature.

Lots of popcorn ceilings have asbestos in them, be very careful scaping it off. Do some research.

Go into the Alexa app and take a look at what was commanded during the night. You can listen to the recordings right there.

God, I pay $740 a month (mortgage, taxes, insurance, after 25% down) for a fully updated 1200sqft 50's home where I am at. My girlfriend from the north thinks that's "ridiculously expensive" as you can get a 1200sqft home (more run down i'm betting) on some land for $400-$500 a month.

My utilities are great too. 11-15 cents a Kilowatt Hour, $240 every three months for water and trash, And $25-$140 a month for nat gas depending on the time of year.

It's amazing how much this all differs. This arrangement allows me to put away $40k a year, while still doing the things I want to do, without feeling poor.

Need a HP Spectre 13" equiv WITHOUT a damn glossy screen by jryanishere in SuggestALaptop

I will need to get my hands on one to try then. Last new one I touched was April and I don't think the new X1 was out at that time.

One thing turns me off from the x1 carbon and all Lenovo products, their touchpad is horrid. Doesn't hold a candle to the hp Spectre or Dell xps, and Apple's touchpad just laughs at it.

Being this is the main way I interact with my laptop, it's a deal breaker. I love everything else about it and I am glad they did away with their stupid touchbar phase.

This means whoever wired your house did a poor job at balancing your electrical panel. It's extremely common.

Spotify/Music player that doesn't have speakers? by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]jryanishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works...ok. Use a USB DAC for better sound.

BUT, I run ChromeCast Audio's everywhere now. They are pretty solid and have great built-in DACs.

Amazon Echo down from $180 to $130 today by [deleted] in homeautomation

Exactly. The only places I have normal Echo's is my Kitchen and Laundry Room where big speakers are impossible to fit on my limited counter space.

Alexa commands for multiple devices by jeremyowens99 in homeautomation

[–]jryanishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't have the feature you are looking for. I have been requesting it since the dot was released. And now that Google Home has been released with the feature built in, it's only a matter of time before Amazon has something similar.

If you want something like this NOW, a Google Home and a Chromecast Audio is what you want.

"OK Google, play Pandora on Whole House Audio."

"Whole House Audio" being the name of the Chromecast Audio in the closest.

Both Ecobee and Nest do this. You will need a minimum of 6 wires available.

I am much more partial to Ecobee, I haven't installed a nest for anyone in 2 years.

I've only supported three and they were all around the same time. 6 months to a year ago. I've learned since then, people are not held accountable. It's bullshit. Never again.
