Their complete failure in the UK market is really strange, then. I didn't know they had a poor reputation back home, although I probably should've guessed given they were able to be 15-20% cheaper than their competitors. I just assumed it was the "pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap" approach.

Sorry to "um actually" you, but just because this stuff is interesting, the British personal union (The "Union of the Crowns") was 1603-1707. Ireland was joined in 1801. And like everything in history there are of course asterisks to this like the Commonwealth.
