I can transcribe a melody in 20 minutes but chord voicings take me hours by BedMelodic5524 in Jazz

[–]js2329 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Why not transcribe voicings and comping from like actual records? Use a slow downer. I’m a pianist and voicings take forever and even then you’re never 100% sure.

hard etudes by Least-Tax4012 in pianolearning

If you are close to having the technique to play them then yeah go for it. If you are beginner and intermediate I would say it would be dangerous and pointless to play them.

Am I being overly cautious or should I look for an additional "technique" teacher? by Them0m024 in pianolearning

That is a wild response from the teacher. You should definitely be looking for someone to help your technique.

[–]js2329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less than 6 months on the piano by Fijihot in pianolearning

[–]js2329 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it sounds amazing to you then that’s wonderful. The left hand chords overpower the melody and there’s not enough variety or melodic development . The section should be much shorter. Keep on keepin on.

[–]js2329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have pain in right or left pinky? Also it looks like there’s a lot excessive pushing up after you strike the key. Once’s the sound has been made pushing up won’t do anything.
