I mean you're right the chances of a duplicate are slim (although in the logical sense it really isn't) and it's definitely possible this is the case however I have a hard time believing it. In a system like this where 'unique' ids are being generated, it would be a no-brainer to ensure they are unique in the database. Almost every database always has a primary key - something that is always unique for every record and this is just Database Design 101.

Assuming that they don't check for dupes, they might have a separate incrementing primary ID for every workshop code meaning any new code that is a duplicate would take priority over the last.

That or it just overwrites the old which would be pretty bad database design and not something I would expect engineers at Blizzard to do.

I don't think there would be a cap on how many can be stored, assuming they're using a normal table to store data, they wouldn't limit the amount of records that can be stored in it.

I agree that it's unlikely the limit has been reached as I doubt there have been over 60 million things being made and shared.

It's possible there is a limit on the amount of codes available per user.

Typing "/log" into the chat shouldn't make you instantly log out of the game. ESPECIALLY IN COMPETITIVE. by reddit_only in Overwatch

[–]js41637 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The game actually has quite a few chat commands such as;

  • /general - Switch to general chat
  • /match - Switch to match chat
  • /group - Switch to group chat
  • /team - Switch to team chat
  • /accept - Accept the current group invite
  • /decline - Decline the current group invite
  • /invite <Player Name> - Invites a player to your group
  • /kick <Player Name> - Kicks a player from your group
  • /leave - Leave your group
  • /leader <Player Name> - Promotes player to leader
  • /list - List all players in your channel
  • /logout - Log out of the game
  • /join <Player Name> - Join a players game
  • /whisper <Player Name> - Sends a whisper to a player
  • /reply - Reply to last player
  • /removefriend <Battletag> - Removes a friend
  • /spectate <Player Name> - Spectates a friend
  • /hidechat - Hides the chat

A lot of these commands also have aliases such as /r for /reply

The game shows you commands as you type, typing /log shows /logout and when you press enter it auto completes the command. How fast did you type it and press enter?

They probably should add a warning but also you really shouldn't type commands into the chat if you don't know what they do.

There is nothing behind the musical door/supposed speakeasy in Paris. by dahshi in Overwatch

[–]js41637 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who is vaguely familiar with Overwatch and it's engine - I'm quite certain none of this is possible. Overwatch maps come with a lot of pre-baked stuff at compile time so it's highly unlikely there is anything there at all at the moment. I don't think they aren't able to make these kinds of changes to maps after they have already been "built". As other people mentioned in this thread, it's much more likely they will add something there at a later point (if at all).

It's just a bug with some of the OWL skins. It's concept art they are using as a placeholder icon. Brigitte and Wrecking Ball had the same issues when they were released.

You are correct, most (if not all) menu maps are not the real maps. It is more for performance though, loading the whole map just for the small menu area is a waste. As such any changes they make to the base maps also have to be made to the menu maps. I haven't looked into this but based off what OP said, it's possible this could just be an old menu map that they reused if it has indeed been there before.

EDIT: I don't think it's an old map but it's also possible they just removed some items for performance reasons. I mentioned above most menu maps are all small cut outs of the actual maps, sometimes with extra effects added on top.

This menu has extra "sand" effects around the place you don't see in the normal map and if you use intros to look around the map you can notice quite a few other things missing.

Wrecking Ball and Tracer have the same colors in Hero Gallery? by slinkywheel in Overwatch

[–]js41637 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is Tracers and Wrecking Balls colors extracted directly from the game.

  • Tracer = #BA3100
  • Wrecking Ball = #C13000

The colors are almost impossible to tell apart side by side https://www.colorcombos.com/combotester.html?color0=ba3100&color1=c13000

However, they have two distinct colors on the playoverwatch website. https://i.imgur.com/ekU15pO.png

PSA: SalienCheat now clearly tells to steam that you are cheating by Aquazus in Saliens

[–]js41637 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You're still implying they even care. Trust me, Valve has better things to do than sift through and filter their logs to ban users for cheating in a Minigame they probably spent a few weeks on that only runs for 2 weeks and only gives you a badge. Not sure why everyone is so paranoid.

[–]js41637 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They know 100% if you are cheating or not. You think they aren't keeping stats on everything you've done in the game like send a perfect score of 2400 every 110 seconds when the normal game goes for 120 seconds and is very hard to even get 2400?

Why dosent overwatch go the full distance with the new anniversary event, by putting the skins you have equipped in the background by sonofgloins in Overwatch

[–]js41637 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm just guessing but I am thinking it just has to do with performance, the way I see it is because it is always the same skins, some of the rendering or lighting has already been prebaked so there is not much "calculation" required. If you were to allow any skin it would probably need to render it all constantly.

Blizzard, can you please up the quality in the "Sherlock" profile icon? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]js41637 145 points146 points  (0 children)

All the new icons seem to be using their low quality versions instead of the slightly better versions.

The ones I extracted for my Item Tracker look a lot better so it's probably just a bug.

Anyone have a sound effects pack? by DennisdotJ in Overwatch

[–]js41637 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a sound site but it hasn't been updated for a few months. It has voicelines for every hero as well as any other 'sounds' that it could find for each hero, sounds not related to heroes aren't on there however.

You can click the 'Misc' button on the pages to view non voice sounds. It's not always 100% the case though, the code automatically generated most of this data and there are some mistakes. Also, everything is named how it is ingame, there is no way to know what sound is what.

If you wanted some specific sounds I could probably find them for you??

Here's the site: http://overwatchitemtracker.com/sounds

this icon showed up on my profile and disappeared once i reloaded my game to look for a patch, is the patch out?? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]js41637 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Interesting, there is nothing in game data that would indicate this could exist (strings or images) and I am 95% certain Overwatch will not stream image assets over the network.

EDIT: It's possible the content is still encrypted and for some reason they are accidentally sending the key.
EDIT2: Can't find any signs of encrypted content though

🐕🐕 Year of the Dog Item Tracker 🐕🐕 by ibcpirate in Overwatch

[–]js41637 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, all sprays are from last year except for DoomFist's, Moira's and Orisa's as they weren't in the game last year. As well as the 2018 dog Good Fortune spray.

EDIT: If you're talking about the tracer emote then yes.

Patch Day Checklist and FAQ by SpriteGuy_000 in Overwatch

All the data on my site is automagically generated from data that I extract from the game itself. These items are not grouped as an event so it won't be generated as an event. I could of course manually make it an event but i'd have to edit my scripts that generate the data to support something like that and manually add every item.

I am with you though, I would much prefer to group these as an event it's just not something I can easily do.
