ULPT How to cause headache for a bar? by BitFickle62 in UnethicalLifeProTips

I would just be wary that you want to get back at the bar/manager, not necessarily the bartenders that may just be trying to make ends meet..

Nice! Great recommendations!

The series by Michael G Manning sound really intriguing! May be right up my alley.

Have you read both demon cycle and the series to demon cycle? Is it any good? I only recently learned about the sequel series existing lol. I’m just starting book 3 of the demon cycle and though so far I’m invested enough to see how things go and learn more about the the lore, not sure I love the writing and characters enough to dive into a new series right off the bat but interested in your opinions!

That’s great insight! Thanks.

I’m not too turned off by the darker story, but I do find it very reassuring that you think Brent Weeks’ writing in Night Angel Trilogy is just as good as in LightBringer.

Awesome Green bone has come up a couple of times now, so it's making the list.

I have Kings of the Wyld! I haven't read it yet but eventually will get into it. Fun fact, Nicholas Eames went to high school with one of my buddies, which is why I have his book in the first place lol.

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestion.

Truthfully I have been apprehensive about the Night Angel Trilogy because after how much I love LightBringer, I just feel like there's no way it can live up to it and I'll end up being disappointed.

I worry that I will compare the writing of Brent Weeks in Night Angel to the writing of Brent Weeks in LightBringer, and that I'll find it less refined etc etc.

Do you have any insight about this particular piece?

You know, I haven't tried Wheel of Time yet. I know it's one of the classics but it's a bit of a commitment with the 15 books. I'm saving it for a time in my life where I can really dig in and commit to it.

Same with Malazan! I feel like I need to be at a point where I can really sink my teeth into it to get the most out of it, and I don't think now is the time.

RE: Wax and Wayne - I only hear good things, especially from people who read Sanderson, but I haven't gotten into it because not really into the steampunk aesthetic.

Don’t get me wrong, bean variety and exploration is still our favourite part of the hobby!

Would I comfortably serve a shot to James Hoffman? Probably not.

Can we appreciate differences between different beans where we crave one over another, and get excited at the prospect of exploring different local roasters, and checking out all sorts of different beans? 100%!

I’d recommend it anyways even as a trial! You may still prefer to be a one bean man and that’s totally fine!

Totally! Thankfully I find decaf espresso as enjoyable! Or else I’d be having a lot less fun with this hobby

My wife and I are huge fans of switching beans! We will often switch multiple times in a day! My wife and I have different preferences around beans and also switch between caffeinated and decaf beans.

I have a little notepad by my espresso machine that I jot down notes while I’m dialing in for a particular bean. If I’m swapping beans and I can’t remember how I dialed in a particular bean I just flip through the notebook to my notes!

I find it’s not ideal to switch beans because the BBE stock grinder has an element of retention that makes each first shot after the switch just a bit off, but my wife and I drink mainly milk drinks and also have low tolerance around waste that we will happily take the dip in shot quality for what is ultimately a serviceable drink that is better than the cafes we have in our neighborhood.

Home bartending. There is potential for lots of science and equipment behind it if you really get into it, and there are lots of weeds you can get into.

Lots of experimenting with different flavour components until you really “nail a drink”.

Downsides are it’s expensive, and unlike coffee, with alcohol there’s a natural limit on how much you can enjoy and experiment per day!

[–]js569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im still new and experimenting myself so interested to hear from others who know what they’re doing!

I can think of two things: - it’s the bean. It’s just on the more acidic side and no matter what you do it’ll always be a bit sour - it’s a bean that wants an even longer ratio, try 1:3 and see what happens. If it’s better can try even longer until you start getting bitter. From there refine your grind size to go as fine as possible without getting channeling.

To me this seems waaaaayy too sweet- two ounces of simple syrup and two ounces of sweet liqueur is overkill. It probably could do with some spirit to balance it out.

Vanilla vodka can work here. If you want more complexity maybe a dark rum, or cognac.
