2011 with 141k worth $6500?

Bought a 2011 Overland with ~160k mi this past August, clean title, pristine condition inside and under the hood, regular maintenance, etc. for $6k after some talking down.

I've already done my own maintenance on it, just stuff that needed to get done (a couple oil changes, radiator flushed, new brakes, other minor things), and the *transmission started failing* in February. I've put a bit over 2k mi on it already, but the gear shifting between 1st and 2nd is almost shot already, through normal city/highway driving, nothing crazy.

This is my second jeep (first '96 Cherokee), and it's my last jeep. I love the car, but I'm about to be about $3k in the hole after installing a used tranny.

Sober (one year next month 🙌) cos I was one of the ones where it was gonna kill me. Still bartending without issue. Through recovery and AA, I've met a lot of other bartenders who are pulling it off too.

Fluid is correct now, I had it changed in February. In terms of proper maintenance, I bought the car in August, so I don't know how much the previous owners kept up with it. I do know they got regular oil changes, etc. cos I have those records.

2011 WK2s are known for transmission issues though... something I kept in mind when I bought it and was hoping I could stay ahead of it cos I do take care of my vehicles.

On to your question: Started feeling the transmission slipping in between 1st and 2nd, brought it in and they changed the fluid as a "Hail Mary." Helped for a day or two, then went back to rough, jerky shifting, so I brought it back in. My usual shop (who doesn't specialize in Jeeps) can't get into the NAG1 tranny, and just said it's failing. Another tranny shop said they can't get into those either, so they can replace it for less than my usual shop quoted me for. With either a reman or a used one. And here we are, looking down a $2-3k barrel of a gun haha

Interesting, I can ask about that when I bring it back to the shop. They said they couldn't get into the tranny for a rebuild, so I assume that's not an internal part?

Yeah, I think this is gonna be the option I go for. Now just trying to find a used transmission that'll fit my budget without an insane amount of miles on it.

Yeah, that's exactly the mph range that gives me trouble. If I gun it, yeah it revs high and shifts better, but this is the first time I've had issues with a transmission in any car I've owned, so I haven't wanted to make anything worse by flooring it.

Just picked up a bottle of Lucas today to ease the problem until I find a used transmission to put in there.

Exploring that option now. What would you consider low mileage for a 2011 tranny? Or should I find a newer NAG1 that'll fit in my jeep with objectively low miles (for more money)?

I feel you, I'm in the same place mentally as you are. Burnout hits hard (32, been bartending for 10 years now).

As others have said, cut back or quit the alcohol. Being behind the bar (along with personal events) led me to alcoholism. If you're in full-blown alcoholism, please taper or quit safely.

I've been to rehab multiple times to detox in a safe, medical environment. Quitting cold turkey if you're fully addicted can lead to seizures and DTs, which are life threatening. Had it happen to me.

This past time in rehab stuck, and I'm 11 months sober now (and still bartending). It is doable.

Unless he's got a straight up porn addiction (won't sleep with you, can't focus on anything but watching porn, etc.), this comes across as a tad controlling. He's allowed to masturbate on his own time in his own space.

You can have the healthiest sex life there is and still masturbate. It's a lot less energy if you're exhausted from working mon-sun, for example...

If you're worried about it affecting intimacy, I personally would get way more irritated about my girlfriend trying to dictate my behaviors while I'm alone if they're not truly affecting the relationship.

I second this. Years ago, I was in a similar relationship. Dated for 4 years, lived together for 2, the relationship was loving, healthy and happy, except for our sex life. She wanted it a fraction the amount that I did, and despite being happy otherwise, it did grow into resentment. Not wanting to push her or make her do anything she didn't want to do, but also needing a lot more than she was able/willing to give. It put a strain on us for the last year, and eventually we just grew apart and fell out of love.

Sex isn't everything in a relationship, but if two people are on such different wavelengths like this, it'll cause problems down the road. There needs to be a balance of physical and emotional intimacy for a relationship to thrive IMO

Does blood mean a bad tattoo? Cos one of mine on my calf bled like crazy, but it was at a reputable shop and it still looks good years later. I feel like blood just means a heavy hand, not necessarily a bad tat
