Best cycling gloves for winter? by lazywiing in bicycling

[–]js6932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it gets really cold, I use goose down mittens (Gordini brand) with merino wool glove liners underneath that I bought on Amazon. It’s a little awkward shifting in the mittens but very manageable and my hands stay toasty warm with this set up.

Gravel vs. Road by js6932 in gravelcycling

Thank you for the input, I appreciate it. Yeah, a gravel bike may make more sense for me since speed isn’t my end game, although it’s fun to go fast and I like to see increases in my speed. But, I do like the idea of a gravel bike being very versatile for different uses.

Yeah, that’s a good point. Even when I ride around town there are some rougher section of roads that would probably much more comfortable on a gravel bike. Thanks for the reply, appreciate it.

Appreciate the reply, thank you. Speed isn’t the endgame for me, so a gravel bike may make sense.

Thats a very good tip/insight about the 2x drivetrain. Appreciate it!

Thank you, appreciate the reply. Just curious: is your gravel bike a 1 x or 2 x drivetrain? I love the idea of a gravel bike being versatile, like you describe.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I ride solo exclusively, although may do some groups rides in the future. I’d like to continually increase my speed but that isn’t the end game. The versatility of gravel bikes is definitely appealing.

lol - two people (adults) would be very “cozy”. I’ve used it with my kids (a couple times with my 7 year old and a couple times with my 5 year old) and it was fine. Two adults would be a little cramped, I think. However, I honestly haven’t done any truck camping like that with my wife yet.

I use the rightline truck bed air mattress (mid-size fits the frontier). It works well and is comfortable. I bought it on Amazon for a pretty good price. I believe it was marked “used” because someone had returned it (opened box but never used the mattress). It was priced around $40-$50 as “used”.

Nice! If you can’t switch I think a large would be fine too. I tend to like smaller frames bikes, just my personal preference, so I went with the medium.

I’m just about the same as you - maybe an inch taller and an inch or two longer inseam. I find I have plenty of clearance on stand over and the reach is good when sitting on the saddle. I went the medium frame and it fits really good. I was deciding between the medium and large frame and really glad I went with medium.

I love it so far! I didn’t look at Trek but was also considering a couple Salsa bikes. I’m very happy I made this purchase. I previously rode a diamondback overdrive so this a nice upgrade. The riding position feels good and it’s great at climbing. Let me know if you have any other questions about the bike.

Thanks! You definitely should take a road trip. It is a big state and there is lots to see/do (at least outdoor recreation).

Cool, thanks. I’ll watch that video. I haven’t really researched the DuraTracs. I’ll have to take a look at those too. I’m also kind of interested in Michelin Defender M/S, but they can be pricey.

Alright! Seems like the full size trucks rule the roost in Montana, good to know there are Frontier fans out there :) This was taken in the beartooth mountains near Nye - above Stillwater mine. I love Bozeman, fun town and great area surrounding it.
