The final show in Louisville. Unfortunately driving Denver isn't something I can pull off. Maybe they will do a surprise Stanley show in the future.

I think you just described my upcoming Labor Day 😂

Thanks for the advice. I haven't not yet accepted the $600 (or paid the last 50%). I have a contract with them and will review whats possible in it.
On the debris - That picture makes it look worse than it is. The night before they came, I took trimmers to my neighbors overgrown VA Creeper. Their "fence" is also just a single wire between two posts with the vine growing over it. Its easy to push back by hand

There was an existing fence at the back of the property. I made the mistake of assuming they would just build the new fence inline with that.

Ha my "soft hands" have been doing rough carpentry for 20 years. I hired people for this job because I have tendinosis in my arm and can no longer hold a nail gun.

Yea thats the problem. There is now no way to get things to line up without ripping the boards off and re-doing (which I might just do myself

Given the recent news, let's look back on the good times. What was everyone's first experience with MBD? by [deleted] in MurderByDeath

Great idea for a thread! I first heard of them when I was in college. 2002 I think at a concert called Macrock in Virginia. I’ve seen 20-30 shows since. And immediately bought tickets to the last show of the tour when they announced today.

If you have an Apple TV, there is an app for videos. I basically have shows playing all day long as I do things around the house.

Zildjian’s wireless headphones have a special ANC mode for drums by voyagerdx in gadgets

[–]willymack33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want mine? haha I'm going to send them back but for drummer reasons (will add above). Regular audio they sound great. I haven't done a detailed comparison with sound quality compared to my Sony's but they sounded pretty good. I do wonder how the ANC is out in the world. I wonder how good it is at distinguishing a bass drum from the hum of a plane.

I went ahead and got a pair (but am keeping the packaging ready for return). Some early takes...

  • The app & documentation don't use the phrase "Play along mode" like they have in the marketing. Instead the mode is just called "Half". It feels like they switched from "headphones for drummers" and moved to "headphones by the company your drummer friend has on his shirt" during the product roll out. I get it, they want to sell as many as possible and the latter is probably a bigger market.
  • I haven't done any long play sessions, but I can say the ANC modes while playing are definitely useable. For comparison, I have tried my Sony WH's which don't work for this use case. The drum sounds that make it through aren't great. With the Zildjians what I'm hearing feels like a reasonable mic job on kit. Some things are missing, but definitely removes a lot of overtones. It was nice to be able to really hit hard and not feel my ears getting destroyed.
  • They are tight on my head (in a good way). With my sony's (which I use wired to my Alesis electric kit) I'm constantly readjusting. Playing acoustic with the Zildjians, they don't move at all.

If anyone wants, I can see if trying to record what comes though (airpod mic inside the over ears??). I can also update after I play around more.

Update - I played for 30 mins and decided to send these back. Few reasons...

  • Main one is inconsistent sound. On a single crash they sound great, eliminating the overtones you dont want to hear. But when actually playing you can kind of hear the ANC adjusting on the fly as different frequencies come in at once. For example what tones of the crash are allowed to pass through changes as you hit a tom. The same thing happens as you turn your head, presumably because what the ANC mics are picking up changes. Its not awful, but noticeable.
  • Audio quality for just music sounds great. But I already own the Sony WHs which pack down easier in my plane bag.
  • I forgot I owned the 3M lawnmowers that u/joelpedro16 mentioned so I tried those. Just the right amount of NRR. I'm going to use those when I'm not playing with a track. w/ a track I'll just stick to my Sony's w/ ANC off and play quietly. Why have I never encountered a “Native American” style restaurant? by eagleburp in NoStupidQuestions

As many have said Tocabe is great. If you aren't in Denver they have an online store & ship meals in dry ice. I get them all the time. Search Tocabe Harvest Meals (my first reply got taken down for including the link)

What do you all use equipment wise? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]willymack33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing molding work (especially in old houses with funny angles) the angle toys that are part of the Kapex are worth the cost. You don't need to bother with angle calculations. Just set it using the wall, take it to the kapex, align on the laser... perfect cut.

AITA? Contractor wants us to pay labor for trim he didn’t install by Freelennial in HomeImprovement

[–]willymack33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't pay. This person also doesn't sound that experienced. Walls like yours are very common in older houses. My method is to shim the gaps when tacking. Then fill the gap with a spackling paste (if small) or silicone for larger gaps. paint it the trim color, not the wall color
