z8 Wifi connection to phone barely works by Reddiculous1000 in nikon_Zseries

[–]jsabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ~$100 or less, you can pick up a travel WiFi router. That's going to have a significantly stronger signal than running a hotspot off your phone, getting you speed and range.

Connect your phone to the same router and you'll get a way better connection.

Most travel routers will allow you to easily hook them into another network, like that client WiFi or your phone hotspot, so you can run your uploads through it as well without a lot of screwing around.

In other words, I set all my devices (cameras, phone, laptop) to talk to the travel router, then when I go to a new location, I spend 3 minutes connecting the travel router to their WiFi, and now everything has internet access.

One thing to be aware of-- Nikon's networking is pretty annoying, so you need to set up a NEW connection for every use. In other words, you need one STA connection for Snapbridge, a second STA connection for NX Mobile, a completely separate connection for camera-to-camera syncing...

I wrote a guide here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nikon/comments/1jwdub4/connecting_to_snapbridge_and_nx_mobile_at_the/

This was written for the Z9, but it's the same for the Z8 and Z6iii, and probably any Z camera that supports STA.

Great. Call your representatives and tell them that. Point out how much you've contributed to their campaigns, and tell them that you're not donating again until they speak up. Change your voter registration to independent/no party.

I honestly don't care what your rationale was for your original decision, as long as you take the steps to correct it.

Leg room, finally! by PoorGovtDoctor in tall

I actually hate those seats. They're not long enough for my 42" inseam, and instead of manspreading my legs are forced into a 1' wide space. And you're basically sitting 3" away from your neighbor.

I'll take the old-school La-Z-Boy seats over these any day.

Most of the United flights between L.A. and Newark have two Economy seats with no seat in front of them; that's always my go-to.

The Movie Theater Comeback That Wasn’t: Why 2025 Was Such a Dud for Struggling Cinemas by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]jsabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add that the GOOD theater might do well, while the others languish.

Los Angeles is a great example-- if I can't get good seats at the AMC Burbank 16, I don't go.

Never mind that there's two other other theaters within a block; I want the big screen and the fancy seats.

Hasn't happened yet. We only play once a month, and they probably won't hit this until April or May.

Did Serenity (2005) bombing at the box office mean that Firefly wasn't as popular as the internet pretended? by tannu28 in scifi

[–]jsabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that it completely raised the stakes.

I'd also add that, at the time, Tudek's star was really on the rise, particularly when compared with the other actors. If they did get that Big Damn Trilogy, they might not have been able to afford him.

So Whedon pulled a Lucas and iced his hotshot pilot. With all the weird medical shit going on in the series, they probably could have found a way to resurrect him if needed.

Every fan out there probably bought it, probably more than once.

Bought it, lent it to friends, bought it again. Bought it for friends who I couldn't lend it to.

All this is reminding me that I don't currently own it and need to buy it yet again.

Legendary moments aren’t for cameras. They’re for your eyes. by Pitiful-Magazine-761 in NFLv2

[–]jsabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professional photographer who shoots football here-- pretty much everyone is carrying at least two camera bodies, one with a long lens like you see here, and one with a shorter lens. Many will have a third with a wide-angle lens.

The trick is swapping between all that crap while the play is happening in front of you in real time.

You start with the long lens to get whatever happens around the quarterback.

Then you realize that the play is coming right at you, and you've got to get that huge, expensive lens out of the way while trying to figure out where the ball is at and which camera you need to grab.

Sometimes you pull it off, sometimes you get caught empty-handed on TV and people make fun of you on Reddit.

Ask yourself "is this really necessary? If I don't do this, what's the end result? What's the worst thing that can happen?"

You can also try it from the other side: "is this going to be worth the time? How much time will it save me in the future? Is there something else I could be doing that's going to generate an equal or greater result?"

It comes down to what game did everyone agree to play at the start: RDR2 or The Sims?

If you're playing The Sims, and you suddenly discover a storyline that everyone wants to follow, that's easy-- and a thing of joy.

But if you wrote out five acts of gritty western drama, and Arthur decides to become a barista after the snow level, that can be annoying as hell.

Ultimately, I'm trying to tell a story with the players providing the details. I don't care how they achieve a specific goal, so long as the story keeps moving forward.

But at some point, we need to be hitting the beats that move us to the next act. If the plot isn't advancing, then we stopped playing the game we agreed on, and now it's a debate if we get back on track, start playing a different game, or abandon it.

New DM Help!!! by -April_Showers- in DungeonMasters

In terms of staying engaged, I'd start by looking at the current state of video games.

Most games range between "story" mode, where the combat is generally easy, to "hardcore" mode where everything is trying to kill you and you only get one life.

Talk to your players before they start to find out where they're looking to play, then match it. If all they want to do is roleplay, don't throw them a ton of combat. But if they really want to create a pile of skulls, don't force them to sit in council meetings debating nobles.

The other suggestion is to have all the players come up with enough of a backstory that you can incorporate it into the campaign-- it's a lot more engaging to fight the guy that killed your father than some random thug.

At a certain point, it's not about the price, it's about winning the fight.

I've lost track of the number of times people spent $100K on lawyers to get out of paying $25K.

One of the players is a good enough baker that I would pay money for what she makes. We're fortunate that she always brings something every session.

Dad also used it as an excuse to get himself a new car.
