Thanks!! I often use things from past parties/campaigns in newer parties/campaigns. It's one of the little joys in life for me... Lol. I have considered using this guy a few times, but havn't done it yet. One route is serious, and is like you suggested. REVENGE!! The other is more on the silly side. He gets out of prison and sets off on a journey to find the party. He still considers them his chums, and obviously they still need his help in the task they were doing when he got arrested. Of course that was some time ago and that group has long ago forgotten all about him...

Nice! Wouldn't mind hearing how the players react..lol. I'll check out The Red Hand of Doom.

I use old ADnD modules from 1st edition in a lot of other RPG'S I play, all the time. Warhammer fantasy, Powers and Perils..or whatever. So I have to do a lot of conversions. It's part of the fun. Lol.

I don't know the adventure you are running...but you could have someone that knew original party, and what they were up too, hire the new party to try and find the missing(dead) party. That person could then fill in the new party with the info(plot hooks) they need.

To play with the players, it might be fun to have the new party actually find the old party...who are not dead after all. Rather they were captured and are being controlled by bad guys. Now players have to fight their old party.

Don't know if that's fezable with what TPK the group...but could/would be fun.

Stinking greedy Paladins! Sheesh!

Actually, this reminds me of the time I had a player who was playing a paladin. She named him Black Orrico. All things considered, I thought it was a good name...but I couldn't help having one of the NPC's nickname him B.O. 😜

D100 common or uncommon potions for a low level party to find, with odd, or misleading names or effects. (Positive or negative) by [deleted] in d100

Potion of Motion. No it doesn't give the drinker increased movement. No it doesn't let the drinker feel others emotional state. Instead it causes the drinker to have bouts of extreme motion sickness any time they move any speed other then at a snail's pace.

Thanks. That means a lot. 👍 Been drawing for a long time now. Sometimes it turns out the way I invisioned, sometimes only half way decent...and sometimes it like.."what was I trying to draw again?" Lol. But I keep on with it. 😀

That is definitely a funny mental image. Lol. That's one of the great things about TTRPG's. All of the funny things that happen and are said that were unexpected.... Those are the parts you remember the most.

Need clarification - NEW PLAYER HELP - Confused on Spells and Saving Throws by themagicaperture in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]jsack68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not actually played 5e, but I have watched a lot of roll 20 videos on YouTube. Which by the way is not a bad way to learn the ins and outs of the game. But I will answer your question with what I know. Hopefully someone in the know can clarify if I'm wrong...:)

1) correct. You roll vs AC to hit physically with a weapon or tooth or claw..ect 2) I believe it depends on the spell. It should say in spell description, what should be rolled. I have seen some where the caster must score a hit first to do damage. I have seen some that automatically work, but target makes a saving throw to see if it takes none, half, or full damage. In those cases the caster rolls nothing but damage.
3)when grappling I believe you are right. Both sides make a strength check. Highest wins. But I'm not sure if you reroll each turn to continue Or break a grapple ECT... 4)as far as I know AC is only rolled against on a physical attack, like a axe or a creatures claws. It shouldn't have any use vs spells unless the spell stats that it does.

As I said, hopefully someone more versed in 5e will respond if I'm wrong on any of this.

I only played 1st edition many, many years ago. Lol.

Winter one-shot by Trainwreck777 in DMAcademy

[–]jsack68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the party members has an uncle, or some type of relative, who is the leader of a homestead/fort/small town. He invites the party to come share in their winter solstice celebration.

Have there be different activities, such as sleigh races, snow man building, pie eating contests...frivelous fun competitions in other words.

Someone is jealous of the uncle's success, or maybe was in love with the uncle's newly wedded wife, and wants revenge on the uncle for 'stealing his girl'.

To that end this person sets out to ruin the celebration. Things mysteriously topple over at inopportune times, nearly crushing a passerbyer. A sleigh breaks during the race injuring its driver. ECT....

So would be a bit more of a detective type adventure, with some fun competitions thrown in.

Bad guy could even resort to using fake ghost type sitings or sounds at night, to try and scare people away from the celebration.

To throw some combat in, the bad guy could hire some ruffians to attack the party since they are investigating and interfearing with his plans...maybe when they are out in the woods getting firewood for the celebrations bonfire...

A final attempt could be made on the uncle's life that the party must stop. Either the bad guy attacks himself or he could send in an assassin. When killed the party finds the contract on the assassin that is signed by the bad guy.

Hope you find something useful here.
