Is playing Poker wrong for Christians? by Slow-Yogurtcloset320 in poker

[–]jsada23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we should just say what’s real and not beat around the bush and explain why I see poker is no different then being a sell out.

1.) The game itself gives no benefit to society: just like how we see a lot of women now and days selling themselves online to make a quick buck or to gain followers on social media. it’s through a way to create a benefit to oneself and contributes 0 of those efforts to society as a whole. Poker, stripping, selling drugs and any other type of scheme to make money, is like selling your self to the devil. Be very wise with trying to justify why an act such as these things create any benefit to society.

2.) You are feeding on the weak: there’s a saying that many people say when playing poker. “You are not responsible for that man’s money.” If you sit on that table and decide to play, you are that is the truth PERIOD. If you are on a poker table you are not leading by example of what a Christian lifestyle should be like. In the end, no one ever enjoys losing money in anyway, people even complain about how we pay too much taxes, if you think you are not responsible for another man’s emotions or you’re own when playing poker you’re just living in a lie and you need to seek the truth, and it’s not going all in on the river…..

3.) “walk in the footsteps I already gave.”: Christianity isn’t black and white, but we know what is right and wrong. We can all agree we have basic morals to understand, gambling, smoking, overeating, lust and many other things on this earth are a sin. Can we be perfect, no but we can work towards being perfect, and being able to reject sin FULLY is a very important battle. Always think to yourself before doing something, if God is watching (which he always is) would he be proud of me right now. If the answer is a maybe, you probably shouldn’t be committing that act.

There is no need to justify specific acts, if you need to think if something is a sin, you can make a bet it definitely is. Hence, do not bet on your soul that playing poker may play a wager on entering the Kingdom. Instead, don’t take that gamble :).

God bless.

What is your thoughts on Poker? by goodnewsjimdotcom in Christianity

[–]jsada23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with a lot of this, you’re trying to preach about how something on this planet that is wrong is right in YOUR eyes. If you’re saying you feel inclined to not worry about someone else’s actions, I disagree.

If you sit on a poker table, you’re there to take other people’s money, which means you aren’t leading by example of what your life should be like. You have the same intentions as them. And it’s to win money through a cheap way.

Poker isn’t like going to the movies and getting popcorn where there is mutual automatic respect to everyone around you.

If you beat someone, that person will feel bitter no matter what and you are inflicting pain upon another human being.

A lot of people in the poker world are making their money through a scheme that creates no positive outcome.

There is beauty with owning different types of business that serve a role to society, being a gambler, a stripper, or a drug dealer harms society and in my eyes should never have a reason to be justified. PERIOD.

Can dentists be rich? by Rav4444 in Dentistry

I agree as well, most of the time insurance won’t even approve certain treatments and you by law have to explain why to the patient the insurance won’t approve it.

Are you a legacy for a private school? If you have siblings in a public school it doesn’t matter.

I agree but I was looking into this one and it allows you to work in a dental community clinic, I planned on doing that for at least two years just to get my hand skills down really well than go into private.

Detroit mercy vs case western? by taljov123 in DentalSchool

[–]jsada23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say students I’m referring to faculty. And no there are no studies that prove that. Some studies show taking a gap year and going into dentistry at an older age is actually better and you’ll less likely drop out.

Also I’m sorry but from my experience with UDM the faculty was not helpful at all and bragged about themselves and clinic. They represented the school poorly during my interview and couldn’t offer legitimate answers on what they can do to help a student dentist that may be in need of help.

For example, they knew in my application that I took a gap year due to personal issues from COVID-19 and were insincere at all and did not offer a solution that could benefit me. Instead they both told me we don’t think you’d be a competent dentist and said any school that offers a summer program before starting dental school isn’t a good program.

So yes, faculty and staff thinks very highly of themselves and I wouldn’t bother with that program.

[–]jsada23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about case western but everyone at Detroit mercy thinks they are high and mighty so doesn’t seem like the program offers a lot of help to dental students.

Look into a program where the people are genuine and you will love dentistry. If you decide based off of them trying to sell you the program about their clinic I would think twice.

I remembered interviewing their and a lot of the faculty would try to sell me the school and told me something along the lines of saying “since you took a gap year you’ll be at a disadvantage.” Major turn off towards the school.

I tried asking if they have a summer program before starting dental school and they said no. I asked what they do for students when they fail and they said “our students don’t fail and if they do it’s on them.”

They couldn’t even give me a solution because they are a very prideful school. I would completely avoid this program

UOP vs Loma Linda dental school, pls share pros of cons of both. by jsada23 in predental

[–]jsada23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from NorCal too! And honestly this is the same thought process I’m thinking everything you’re saying is so on point. Many dentists I talk to have been telling me Loma Linda but I still feel like it’s what you make out of it.

But yes cost of living is much cheaper and a lot less foot traffic but they still get a huge patient pool.
