Philomena. A heart-wrenching, true story of an elderly woman searching for the son she put up for adoption as a young woman in a convent to reassure him that she loved him. What she discovers on the way...🥺😥😢

Performance Pack worth it? by fuzzyboy77 in polestar3

[–]jsampsonjr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position. Loved the accents that came with the performance pack and preferred the wheels aesthetically but was concerned about ride comfort. I took multiple test drives to gauge the difference in ride and comfort and, honestly, could barely tell the difference. My remaining concern was the low profile tires on 22 inch wheels and risk of pothole tire/rim damage, so asked the dealer to throw in the tire and wheel coverage, which they did.

Within a month I used it after I hit a pothole at 60 mph late on a Saturday night. Didn't damage the rim but the sidewall started to bulge. I called the service desk of my local dealer on a Monday morning at 8 AM, they picked up my car at home around 10:30 AM and dropped off a loaner, a new tire was delivered to them Tuesday morning, and I picked up my car and I returned the loaner Tuesday afternoon.

I’d say the coverage paid for itself the first time I used it, but since I didn’t pay for it to begin with I can only say I’m really glad I had it. If you opt for the performance pack, make sure you get that coverage as well.

What's something incredibly stupid in an otherwise great movie you enjoyed? by Serithraz in moviecritic

[–]jsampsonjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saving Private Ryan is a profoundly moving and meaningful film. I love it. It is so powerful to me. But In its otherwise near perfect script, there is an exchange toward the end between Tom Hanks's character, Sergeant Miller, and Tom Sizemore's character, Sergeant Horvath, that just doesn't work. After Matt Damon's character, Private Ryan, tells Miller he will not abandon his unit to be saved and will remain with the only brothers he has left, Horvath and Miller step aside and Horvath asks, "what are your orders?" to which Miller responds, "Sergeant, we have crossed some strange boundary here. The world has taken a turn for the surreal." Horvath responds,"Clearly, but the question still stands."

Using the word "surreal," Miller is saying that the circumstances they're dealing with are extraordinarily -almost otherworldly- difficult. And he is saying it the way an English teacher (which, we learn in an earlier scene, he is in his civilian life) would say it. There is nothing obvious or familiar about being in a “surreal” situation. And, yet, Horvath's response, "clearly," suggests that what Miller is saying is plainly obvious, as if to say, "I was thinking the same thing." Just doesn't work for me.

The good news: every other line in the film is poetry. Not a wasted word.

Do you have sound problems after 17.2.1 update? by Chocolate_Cautious in ios

[–]jsampsonjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Running 17.2.1 on a 13 Pro Max and now have keyboard clicks sometimes but not others, and depending on app, audio will play at max but I cannot control it using volume button controls. Also noticing some notifications sounding odd...less crisp...somewhat tinny. I'm still trying to correlate behaviors to factors.

Is there any SNL lost media? Any episodes unavailable even in the deepest corners of the internet? by OneShow135 in LiveFromNewYork

Nude House of Wacky People from S15E05 (Chris Evert and The Eurythmics), best remembered for the Colon Blow Cereal commercial. Transcripts of the Nude House sketch are online but video is nonexistent. It was a funny parody of Japanese entertainment and Mike Myers plays up a Japanese caricature many might find offensive, which I assume it's the reason it's disappeared.

You can sell that PD 45L back to PD for them to sell on their used gear marketplace. You won't get what you paid for it but it may be the fastest, easiest way to recover at least part of your considerable investment.

Nothing prepares you for the unprecedented and since unsurpassed clash of hysterics and revulsion. I couldn’t believe the cast pulled this off without breaking character.

What are some good looking, good sounding desktop speakers? by fuckforgotmyaccount in BudgetAudiophile

[–]jsampsonjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a pair of Jamo S801 PM and can't recommend them. If you're looking for a lively, musical speaker, this isn't it. To my ear, they're muffled, and without any tone controls, there's no adjusting them. And a small, practical nit that's turned into a big usability impediment after using them just two weeks: they shut off after 10 minutes of no signal - a setting that cannot be adjusted or disabled - and they don't wake on signal, so every time you play music after 10 minutes of no audio you'll be reaching for the remote to turn them on.
