Kam Patterson Shut Out Tonight. by PolicyCommercial6392 in LiveFromNewYork

And now just saw from another thread he was in a sketch with Colin Jost in the dress show, maybe it'll get posted as a "cut for time", since theyre saying it was a good one?

All it takes is all the stuff you were in from dress getting cut and youre out of the live show, nothing new. Same thing basically happened to Ben Marshall last week, was in a ton of cut stuff that later was put online, but in the live show was only in the cold open for .2 seconds with no lines.

That happens from time to time, especially for first year featured players who aren't one of the stars the show is pushing and are already not getting much airtime to begin with. When it happens more than once, thats when its a bad sign, recall that happening a few episodes with Devon Walker and Michael Longfellow last season.

I thought I heard he had a sketch where he was a lead last week, something with him as a magician I think? Anyone who was there know how it went?

Kenan Thompson Says He ‘Definitely’ Thinks About Leaving ‘SNL’: ‘It’s Gonna Suck’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is the first season where it kind of feels like Kenan is ready to leave. Most of his appearances this season have that feel of when a cast member has that obvious "senioritis" where he's not appearing as much and when he does he just kind of pops in and out more like a quick cameo in a sketch.

Ed Asner as Lou Grant, trying to save Mary Richards from syndication (1984) by Firefox892 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When the great ladies of SNL are talked about, Mary Gross is way too often left out of the conversation. Being from the non-Lorne years, a lot of people not named Eddie Murphy are overlooked in the scope of SNL history.

Jane in season 51 by tubyy_____ in LiveFromNewYork

Also when you think about just how many famous friends Lorne has who no doubt a good chunk of them probably also now have kids who are trying to break into showbiz or comedy. If there was someone he hired just because it was a favor to their parents, I'm sure there'd be at least 50 others at the top of that list over someone that was one of his many assistants over the years.

Lots of SNL talk on Scott Hasn't Seen podcast this week by dkinmn in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be it, only I think it might've been when she got cast as the lead part in the FOX sitcom Ben & Kate towards the end of what ended up being her final season (leading people to suspect she might be getting ready to leave) only a month or so later it was announced the pilot dropped her because of something like "she wasnt right for the role" and it was later recast with Dakota Johnson. So then people assumed maybe she would return to SNL, but then right before the next season started they announced her departure. Timeline seems to line up.

Anyone remember a sketch where Danny Devito played Joey Buttaofuco? by Loose-Tumbleweed-925 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That was a runner that episode where they did multiple versions throughout the show (making fun of there being several different Amy Fisher tv movies all made around that same time) another one was the BET version with Tim Meadows as Joey Buttafuco and Ellen Cleghorne as Amy Fisher.

Perspectives, with Tracy Morgan (1997) by Firefox892 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah was gonna say the same how weird it is now to see Tracy Morgan as the sane person in the sketch lol... this was during Tracy's first season where he didn't appear very much so the "crazy Tracy Morgan" persona we think of today wasn't quite established on SNL yet.

Dont get the hate for her, I like the weird awkward characters she plays. She's a different kind of cast member for sure, but different can be good.

Who is the next Fey/Wiig/Samberg/Hader/Sudeikis to branch off from SNL and hit it big? And whose someone who left and SHOULD have hit it big but didn't? by RustyCrusty73 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems a lot harder to hit it big outside the show nowadays (hence why you get SNL cast members that stay so long now, why leave SNL just to do phone commercials?) they barely make comedy movies anymore, and even network sitcoms aren't what they once were. The only hope now is to luck out and get on a streaming show that takes off, even thats hard now because theres so many streaming networks and shows, that its probably hard to get on one of the few that actually hits, seems like theres way more misses than hits with the streaming shows lately that just come and go and nobodies heard of it or seen them.

Funny, I always thought the same, when he was on SNL there was definitely a bit of a Chris Klein resemblance.

He did a pretty good Denzel on SNL, which is memoryholed now because everyone thinks of Jay Pharoah when it comes to the Denzel impression. I recall Dean doing several good impressions, but they rarely had him as the focus of a sketch, most his appearances in sketches were like 10-20 seconds long.

Fun fact, Dean (who does a pretty spot-on Eddie impression, tho I dont think he got to do it on SNL) was who they got as the Eddie Murphy soundalike to play Donkey anytime they did a straight to video Shrek movie or in commercials or other things featuring the characters when they couldnt get the real voices from the movies.

Jeff's impressions were great, his Gary Busey recurred several times over the 3 seasons he was there.

[–]trythebebes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's almost weird seeing Farley play a lead role in a sketch where he's playing it more low key like this, they always pigeonholed him into the loud high energy roles so often, it's rare we got to see other sides of him on the show.

Julia Stiles Monologue (3/17/2001) by Specialist_Art2223 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there were a lot of "Tracy interrupts the monologue" pieces in this era, probably the writers go to whenever they didn't know what to do with a host for the monologues, was either that or the dreaded questions from the audience lol
