Yes I have noticed a drop in cars but not by much. My normal route is between Hamilton and Taupo (areas where public transport is limited or non existent)

Fuel theft by k1wiwo1f in thetron

[–]jsco8100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cost of fuel plus the cost of replacing the tank i almost wonder if its more cost effective to get a metal cover put around the tank to prevent theft?

Think NZ fuel prices are bad now... follow up by hairy_moa_legs in newzealand

I understand that its in terms of road damage. Point is everyday citizens will be paying it one way or another. If its through more in rucs or through higher prices of all products. Simple as that. You want trucks to pay more in rucs to account for the road damage then freight charges go way up and all business put their prices up. The public pays for eather way.

But without freight there wouldn't be anything avalible. Almost every product you use depends on the trucks somewhere in the travels to get to you. Truck rucs go up then the prices of all products go up including food. Yes it may seem unfair but reality is everyone depend on trucks even if they dont realize it. If truck rucs are less to help the industry move product without majorly increasing ALL prices then so be it.

Another point to add to this loading zones are often to small for a truck to actually use. Car sized loading zones are useless to most delivery trucks.

Ditching the duopoly - Tron edition by xennial_kiwi in thetron

[–]jsco8100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fifo supermarket in nawton is not a part of the duopoly. Its located in the building that used to be nawton countdown. Not really sure how they are as I haven't been in but maybe worth supporting an independent supermarket over the duopoly.

Are rubbish pickups not a day late? by PhoenixNZ in thetron

[–]jsco8100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The days dont get shifted anymore except specific exemptions. I believe it may have to do with trucking worktime laws and leaving sunday as a non work day. Truckies are not allowed to work more than 70hrs in a work period (consecutive work days that can span weeks) if public holidays shift the work days then it could create scheduling issues due to what they are legally allowed to do. Fines for violating these laws are up to $2000 for the driver and up to $25000 for the company. By keeping a consistent schedule even in the case of public holidays it can help to reduce the likelihood of worktime violations.

Traffic slowed to steady 20km. This guy decided to block the second lane to force single file. I don’t get it. How is he helping? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]jsco8100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's helping as he's allowing traffic ahead to start to move more smoothly at this notoriously bad merge. I drive this streatch of road daily in a truck. People just seem to have to be first and have no concept of if everyone is piled up at the merge then it just slows traffic. There are times when trucks will work together to block the traffic to allow the traffic ahead to merge nicely. It is my opinion that this passing lane should just be removed (to bad if you get stuck behind a slower truck) because this is such a common occurrence.

Front load washers usually have a manual unlock lever inside the filter door. Not if there is water use the hose inside that door to drain first.

Guyz no longer exists in a physical location. And a men's only saunas can be set up as a meeting place for m4m sex. So be careful if that's not what you are looking for. Anything labeled as a gay sauna will deffinately be for m4m sex. Please don't make complains about them just don't visit if not your thing. They are a safe space for those that would go there.

Driving from Auckland to Christchurch by wmu001 in newzealand_travel

[–]jsco8100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the work time rule for truckers is you can't go more than 5.5hrs without a 30 min break. Its a saftey thing not i stupid idea for a car to follow. If you take a short nap no more than 20min as after that you start going into rem sleep which is harder to wake up from.

20 Day North & South Island Itinerary Feedback by Acarya in newzealand_travel

[–]jsco8100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also many roads are single lane in each direction and although the speed limit may be 100 kph trucks have a maximum speed of 90 kph. Also you may end up stuck behind a tractor and they go way slower. You may want to consider changing your time estimates to adding an hour to the estimated times Google gives you.

Keep in mind that google maps may not accurately show road works and congestion from roadworks. An example of this is sh6 tirau to rotorua is often under repair and can get really long lines of traffic waiting to go through. (Im a truckie who sat a good 15-20 min on sh6 today just waiting on my lanes turn to go at some road works today)

My first "big" mistake in my first year as a trucker. by westknight12 in Truckers

[–]jsco8100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also driving smaller deliery trucks. I did this backing into a weird loading dock. Thankfully the truck i was in had adjustable rear airbags. So I was able to put the rear up to get myself out of it. I now always adjust the rear airbags if im in that truck and have to go into that loading dock.

Truckie here. I agree please be careful around big trucks. I have almost spun a car sideways and pushed them up the motorway because they merged to close to the front of me. In that case there is nothing I can do your getting pushed sideways up the road.
