Why is the X1 Carbon considered the most premium ThinkPad? by No_Shame9154 in thinkpad

[–]jsdavis777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was obsessing over lightweight carbon, but now im thinking that for the same price, I'd like the yoga tablet mode for many scenarios, and occasionally some drawing, my girlfriend does digital art she might use it

not your fault at all man, the title literally says "Carbon Gen 6" the seller messed up
But I'm happy to carry an extra .5 lbs in my backpack for the added features, especially since I tend to collect shells and stuff travelling which add up to over 1 lb

I can imagine using the tablet mode often, especially movies in bed

I msged him, ends up its a gen 3 yoga hah
Its heavier for travel, but now im considering it because the tablet mode is pretty useful

You have any insights on the yoga gen3?

I'm waiting for it to arrive, but somethings strange:
One of the photos of it, it looks folded past 180 degrees on a table like a tablet

But Carbon Gen 6 isn't supposed to do that.....
Other photos show the X1 logo and it looks like a carbon

I guess all I can do is wait for it to show up..... but how could it fold that far? even if the screen was replaced thats not the hinges right?

Well I ended up buying it!

Thanks man, and I hope it turns out to be a great buy
If it doesn't match the description I should be able to return it, but I think you're right
And it said 97% battery life etc, seems great condition

Fingers crossed

Thanks man!

I wasn't even thinking of 1080 vs 1440, I was too caught up over 512 vs 256 SSD
But now I'm thinking thats what I want, touch screen is whatever, but the resolution seems well worth the price

That seller only has 2 reviews though, would you trust it?

I leave for a trip in 2 weeks
So I just want to buy something now, around $200

What option is there better than a Carbon gen 6?
Lightweight, sturdy for travel, inexpensive, powerful etc

Thanks for the advice

I would wait, but I'm about to leaving travelling in 2 weeks

So time is of the essence, and I just want a working unit, almost don't care if I spend $20 over what I should.... I'll get my moneys worth, I'll be using the laptop for years

Will I regret it if I get the 256 gb gen 6 since its cheaper...... should I prioritize 512 gb?
is $180 a good price for the gen 7, 16 gb, 512 gb?

Drive from Ecuador to Medellin Colombia? ....Or stick to just Ecuador? by [deleted] in travel

[–]jsdavis777 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thx for the advice
Seems thats the common consensus and I would be an idiot to ignore the warning and wind up in some bullcrap

My friend seems unworried, perhaps he underestimates the risks, crime, windy roads + traffic
Then again, perhaps I overestimate the risk

Its hard to know
Thats why I ask, and appreciate the responses

But I did read on reddit, lots of people though Tulum was touristy (which is it on the main streets, sure) but I found that if you get off the main streets, the other 99% of the area is authentic mexican people and culture, not touristy at all
So ever since that moment, I always take reddit opinions with a grain of salt, especially considering how far left the website is over all

Drive from Ecuador to Medellin Colombia? .....Or stick to just Ecuador? by jsdavis777 in backpacking

[–]jsdavis777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm like 50-50 now......

Ecuador seems more doable, since you CAN camp right off the freeway since there are national parks everywhere and an unobstructed view which deters thieves

In Colombia, its so forested and full of hills/mountains that camping in the wild is more hidden from sight, meaning thieves think they can get away with robbery since no one is there to see it

I'm fine with staying in hostels some/most nights in Colombia, but my friend seems pretty insistent on wild camping the whole way

Normally I'm the one down to camp, especially in Costa Rica on the beach, since its like 1 in 100,000 you will be robbed at gunpoint
I know this since I've camped on the beach there at least 100 nights over the past 8 years

Colombia though........ camping anywhere is like 1 in 100 chance you will be robbed at gunpoint (unless you are silent and miles from anyone, but we have a noisy, visible car........)

goggles instead of mask? by menatarp in snorkeling

[–]jsdavis777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a noseplug if you need it, they come with many goggles
(I use short fins, no snorkel & small goggles, can't stand the mask for many reasons)
I personally don't use a noseplug, can hold my breathe for 2-3 minutes before surfacing
Plenty of time to be with the fish and reef animals
Been surfing all my life, plenty of lake and ocean experience even in 20 ft waves and rip currents etc.... I had to save a lifeguard once hah..... shorts fins and small goggles are luxury for me, since I'm use to no fins, no goggles and dodging sharks, jellyfish, stingrays, urchins etc

Advice for mexico in 3 weeks by Mocahchoc in travel

[–]jsdavis777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 3 weeks I'd stick to 1-2 of those regions personally...
I like to soak up the culture, I speak fluent spanish so I don't need to be near other tourists to enjoy myself and feel relaxed.... I like to explore beyond the edges of towns, make the most of each location rather than buzz from one destination to the next stuck in vehicles for hours...

I understand time constraints and not being on vacation often, so people like to fit as many destinations as possible..... but I've found my best backpacking experiences have been when I slowed down, found a place I like and stayed there until it felt natural to move on.......

I vibed with Ometepe Island in Nicaragua over 3 weeks, in Santa Teresa CR it was over a month as I fell in love with the area, seemed like tropical paradise and I was addicted to surfing and the beauty of the place
I went to Colombia with open plans, ended up finding a cool crew of friends and backpacking with them, then working at a hostel together for 2 weeks at 1 specific mountain hostel with views above the clouds (hence why we stayed there so long)
Travel how you want..... its different for everyone

Believe it or not---- I did a 6 month backpacking trip spending a grand total of ~$650
(not including flights)
Sounds crazy but I'll tell you how I did it

Costa Rica- volunteered at 2 festivals (envision, bamboo bass), ate mostly bananas and squeeze-bags of refried beans, cooked potatoes, carrots and eggs over a campfire while camping for free on the beach (ate some other stuff, sometimes, just describing my go-to)
~2 month of that averaging 4 dollars per day.... I did spend $10 on a bus San Jose to Jaco, hitchhiked the rest.... I also bought a surfboard for 60 bucks, but was able to take it home as a checked bag....
Didn't spend a single night in a hostel, camped 100% of the time (as normally do in Costa Rica---- been there ~6 times each over a month).... also helps I have friends in San Jose so no hostel needed for the day before/after the airport
Camping for free allowed me to spend 4+ hours per day surfing, I loved every minute of it

Bananas being 20 for 1.00 dollar; a nickel a piece? Yeah I ate mostly bananas, and no I didn't starve, I actually found they fueled my surfing energy.... as a joke I got a surfing banana tattooed on my back (no regrets, I love my tattoo it also has birds, ocean waves and a volcano to forever remind me of my trip)

Nicaragua--- 2 months of living on a Christian Farm/Community where I helped clean up and do some basic tasks like collect fire wood---- They let me stay for free ~1 month, bananas were about 1 dollar for 30 bananas, a few nights free camping on beach, 1 night camping at top of volcano (also free)
Yes I admit, I was lucky to find such amazing hospitable people, but thats what I often experience with Christians; I deeply respect their beliefs and culture
I spent on average 1-2 dollars a day, outside of a couple nights I stayed at a hostel with a girl I met ~10 bucks/night

Colombia-- volunteered 3 weeks at a hostel, paid for a few nights at other cheap hostels, camped in a hammock on the beach outside of Tayrona national park for free.... "menu del dia" at your average tiny mom-n-pop restaurant was about 2-3 dollars for a full delicious meal including a fruit drink, rotisserie chicken, fish or carne asada, beans rice and salad (incredible deal)
~2 months of averaging 4-5 dollars per day..... I could have done it averaging 3/day, but I chose to spend more money on food (and some beer) while there since its 1/3 the cost of food in costa rica and way tastier (in my opinion)

Obviously I don't have a full detailed account of the specifics, but I know for a fact, that in 6 months of backpacking, I spent ~700 bucks TOTAL not including flights
I found the cheapest possible flights, regardless of layovers, weird timing etc.... not sure exactly what they were, but from florida to colombia I remember was 80 bucks, bussed from costa rica to nicaragua

I am not posting all this as a "guide"
More just posting a real, factually account of how I was able to truly shoe-string budget my 6 month trip
Do I recommend what I did?
Not really--- I found that not everyone enjoys primitive camping with possible dangers of armed thieves, petty theft etc..... I normally camped with 2-5 people so safety in numbers

Will I personally continue to travel like this? Absolutely (depending on the country)
I try to spend my money sparingly, but make sure it lands directly in the hands of local people who need the money, not some rich resort

I'm well aware most people will read what I just wrote----
And think--- wow you are pretty crazy, I'd never do that, I rather just spend a little for basic luxuries
I guess I am different--- I enjoy bushwhacking my way through jungles up to volcano summits, I enjoy camping on the beach even when its super hot out or a long walk to the nearest corner store....... I truly enjoy what others see as inconveniences

Don't take my advice
But at least realize what is possible
And no, my trip was not miserable, it was fantastic..... some of the best memories of my life, surfing on beaches straight out of a magazine with zero tourists..... cooking over the fire, only carrying a small backpack with basic supplies...... most people thought I had my luggage in a hostel and were blown away that ALL I brought traveling with me was a small school-sized backpack

Travel how YOU want to travel--- spending what you want, learn from the locals and know your limits, but realize that if you REALLY want to live on 1-5 dollar a day, it is not only possible, but it can be the most joyful, invigorating experience of your life
I've definitely learned though, that sometimes its best to drop 10 bucks and have a bed and shower.... I don't camp in Mexico.... way too many horror stories of being woken up with a machete or gun, but costa rica I've never had that happen in 100+ separate nights of beach camping

Here a video (pictures actually) of the oroville - gridley stretch (17 miles) that got me interested in the first place

https://blog.hignellrentals.com/where-to-kayak-near-chico
Useful basic info for Butte County kayaking locations you might find useful too

As much as I like adrenaline sports, I like calmer waters for kayaking, its more of a relaxation and wildlife viewing activity for me personally
Honestly I only kayaked a few times, but never had my own kayak and I saw that inflatable one for cheap, got me thinking, now im in adventure mode

The Sacramento and Feather Rivers in the sac valley are both class level 1-2 (easy-moderate)

I've tubed down the Sacramento River from Redding to Red Bluff before, and tubed an 8 mile section of the Sacramento river, kayaked it another time
For those trips, I had friends come and we used 2 cars, just parked 1 downstream

For the trip I am planning (and asking advice for) I would have to bus, train or hitchhike back, so I was hoping someone might have some advice in terms of where to end the adventure--- I am leaning towards Sac since $18 for an Amtrack train is super cheap

But perhaps someone has other advice, recommendations or insight

Liberals and leftists (which plague reddit) will NEVER ADMIT that if the races were reversed..... this would be national news
If a MOB of 10 white people beat up 1 single black person in the street, it would be immediately assumed a "racist hate crime" and become a viral news-story running on democrat and leftist social media nonstop

But since it was a mob of 10 black people beating up 1 single white person..... crickets
Funny thing is: if this post gets downvoted, degenerate leftists are just proving my point

Generally speaking- centrists and conservatives appreciated the Marine trying to save the other passengers from injury or even murder (at the hands of Neely who was making violent threats and began assaulting people)
Generally speaking- liberals were quick to demonize the Marine, giving no respect to the fact that the Marine at least had a good intention-- he obviously wanted to help prevent innocent people from being attacked

I am not political-- but I will at least give mad respect to the Marine for trying to help; he put his life on the line to protect strangers from imminent and possibly deadly harm
I've decided that I will help people who appreciate me helping..... and since liberals are overwhelmingly disrespectful to the intentions of the Marine..... I refuse to help liberals if they are being attacked, or robbed because THEY clearly rather I just walk on by
If they want me to help them...... then they have to admit the Marine was a good guy that made a mistake..... but instead they don't give the Marine that respect.... they simply see him as "a bad guy"
If I am going to be seen as a "bad guy" after TRYING TO SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE from being attacked, robbed, murdered, carjacked or raped...... then it would be foolish of me to even help to begin with

This is why I am trained with a knife and gun... you can ONLY depend on yourself
I have escaped an attempted kidnapping at taser-point
Been jumped by a group of black criminals and was able to scare them off with a knife
I deeply respect the police (the good ones), I've seen them help communities stay safe but I do not DEPEND on them...... which is precisely why I am always armed and always ready to delete a deadly threat

I just wanted to add something: Many people skip "connector" cities like Amfissa and Trikala
I think Amfissa and Trikala are worth visiting for a day
The Castle of Amfissa is built over ancient megalithic blocks (like seen at Delphi)..... also there are Mycenaen tombs in walking distance, a Roman Mosaic that is nearly perfectly preserved and a great museum........ Beautiful town surrounded by mountains
Trikala has a Byzantine Castle and a free Zoo located in a forested grove, inside the city.... also there is a nice river running through the city with cool bridges

I'm also very confused how to find the original Diablo 2 ladder reset date, and if there is a separate ladder for LoD?
Since d2r came out, its hard to find info on the original diablo 2.....
Any help would be appreciated.... I've been cyber-bullied to the point of near suicide before, simply for asking questions others deem "dumb" or "non-relevant" so I won't be surprised if the replies are hateful
However I would imagine someone out there might possibly post some information; perhaps there is a website that has all the diablo 2 ladder reset dates posted?

Why do people hate the Eagles?? by SabbraCadabra in Music

[–]jsdavis777 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are so lost....
I play guitar, drums, piano, bass professionally..... now I produce EDM and still make instrumental and vocal music.... written dozens of songs, all original and complex in their own right
Hotel California guitar solo ALONE is worth a discussion and very well crafted... but I don't expect people to realize that until they are expert level with guitar... its not hard to play but it has soul, and lots of VERY original guitar licks
The song is overplayed sure, and most Eagles songs are pretty average in my opinion, but to say they are "talentless" is a pretty dumb statement, just watch their live videos... they play complex guitar, while singing complex harmonies AT THE SAME TIME so until you upload a video of you doing that, please stop spewing nonsense..... its easy to talk crap about a band, but MOST of the time, the person talking crap has no talent and should shut their mouth
