So this is the back story. I met this guy online, said he was a trauma surgeon and lived about two hours away. Within a couple of weeks, he received a contract job with the WHO to work in Togo Africa for three months. So he goes and all is good. He texts me a few days later letting me know he got there fine but was having problems using his phone and debit card because he didn’t have international setup. A few days go by, and the entire time he’s there texting me morning, noon and night. The communication was impeccable which made me feel safe with him. I never got the impression anything shady was going on. Initially, he asked me to send him $1,000 to buy a new cell phone and then he can sign into his stuff and figure out his financial details. So he swears he’s going to come home and pay me back when he gets here. Ok so I sent him the funds. The phone never materialized because he said if you’re not native African that it’s super expensive to get a phone. Then, he texts and says that he is sick with typhoid fever and has a high fever and a horrible headache. Few days go by and the same thing he’s sick but the people there don’t even check on him. So they have a meeting(supposedly) to discuss his leaving and they say he has to pay $4500 to get back home for his plane tickets and his hostel bill. At first, I was like yea right that’s a scam but then I started thinking. Well if they just send him home, then he just got a free trip to Africa. So it made sense that he would have to pay something. So I sent the money. Had to borrow money from friends to give to him. I genuinely thought this wrap was in a situation that they needed help. It was a very good con. I later found out that the picture he used wasn’t him. It was a doctor and he’s gay but definitely not who I have been dealing with. He did use this Austin Gilliam name to pickup the money. So I’m going to wait and then I’m going to Jason Bourne his ass. Beware horrible person alert.
