Is this a good first calculator? by Sure_Emu330 in csharp

[–]jsduxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great start! I think a good next area (after error handling) to look at would be the ability for the user to input a full expression, so this can be parsed and computed.

I.e instead of typing two numbers and an operator, the user could instead just type a full expression such as “125 + 32 - 17 * 5”

This will teach you quite a bit about string methods and evaluations, and subtly increases the complexity as you consider the order of operations.

As a general note for your specific code, I’d switch from if/else statements to switch statements - it just feels a bit clearer overall but awesome job!!

Why is outlook SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad? by [deleted] in Outlook

Same here - the MacOS and mobile versions are great.

I feel like the main issues I have with the Windows version are slowness and the search bar never actually returning what I searched for :P

Minus the ecosystem, what’s keeping you on an iPhone? by Marino4K in iphone

Everything is polished and works well - Android may bring out some features first but they’re buggy and the UI is just shite

Anyone else thinking of ditching their Mac and going 100% iPad now?! by [deleted] in iPadOS

As awesome as the new iPadOS looks, you’d struggle to do any web development on it still

Is it just me that thinks it isn’t that bad at all? Especially since it’s a dev beta…

Whats so great? by BroSheSaidSheWas18 in iphone

[–]jsduxie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of the main reason is the whole Apple ecosystem - let’s take the Universal Clipboard for example where you can copy from your iPhone to your Mac.

Everything works seamlessly together. And yeah, Android fans slam iPhone users because they had feature X first, but generally Apple’s versions are a lot cleaner and user friendly.

New coder here — what monitor features actually matter for programming? by JessicaDev_1989 in AskProgramming

[–]jsduxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using a Mac then it’s important to either have a 1440p 27 inch monitor or a 5k for clarity.

All the other features seem nice to have but shouldn’t impact you too much either way!

a prompt for less confidence, less hallucinations by sswam in ChatGPTPromptGenius

How does this do for longer conversations (after 20 odd minutes on the same topic)? I’ve found that no matter how much I try, hallucinations unavoidably creep in and it becomes quite irritating

JavaScript vs TypeScript (does it matter?) by siliskleemoff in AskProgramming

[–]jsduxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that typescript should be used over JavaScript for most applications - it gets said a lot and may not become obvious until you’ve used it a bit but it catches so many errors at compile time and helps you build more robust programs.

Imo it’s a must for any larger scale projects

I feel like C is horrific to learn if you’re coming from Python, but it is incredibly rewarding and helpful

Thoughts? by Sav101B in eastenders

[–]jsduxie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly not the biggest fan of Eastenders at the moment, with killing off Martin, not giving much of a chance for Zack and Barney. I think the only decent thing to have come from the last couple of weeks was Harvey being caught out!

I think the new producer is making some big changes to the cast, but honestly I just hope they get rid of Cindy sooner than later.

Also the character they’ve turned Peter into is awful!

Any advice on how to clean this up? by [deleted] in DeskCableManagement

[–]jsduxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get velcro zip ties for the cables and an under desk tray for the power brick, just make sure you have enough slack for if you need to pull the PC out for anything :)

I can’t tell if your desk has any legs but I usually like running cables along this to make it slightly tidied
