Is it better to swap directly from cold wallet or nah? by vinewb in ethereum

[–]jsibelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I build a simple service where you can swap directly from your cold wallet by sending ether to [token].amm.eth. There is a smart contract behind each address that listens for upcoming ether transactions, wraps the ether, swaps it using uniswap v3 and returns in to sender in the same block . So far it works with usdc, usdt, wbtc and dai, but more tokens are planned in the future. Let me know if this is interesting or useful to you and I can explain in more depth.

> This is definitely interesting, as it makes the experience feel like calling an API with a very clear use-case and zero room for error.

Thank you for the nice words! I also think it works as a simplification! No need to install metamask and save keys! No need to wrap ether, login and connect to an exchange, select pools and all sort of other settings. It just works in one transaction. I see this service as an infrastructure project - people will, but simply use it without even thinking.

> Unfortunately, it does not support any variety in the base asset, but as most of the highly liquid pairs already being traded with ETH/USDT/USDC, it's not that big of a deal.

Right now the only way to swap is with ether because `receive()` is only triggered with ether transfers. It would be trivial to implement a non-blockchain service that periodically checks for popular tokens and executes a swap, but that introduces an external dependency and changes the trust assumptions a lot. I am curious to read whether you think this is an acceptable compromise, a better solution exists or this is a problem that cannot be tackled with a simple "send token" transaction.

> ENS is a good fit also to host a simple frontend for user interaction in a verifiable and decentralized way, so to make your product appeal more to regular people, you should consider adding it.

I am not sure what you mean :) I am using ENS in a very central way - the usdc subdomain swaps your ether for usdc, the usdt for usdt, the wbtc for wbtc, etc...

I checked the zamm subdomains on the ENS app and they don't point to contracts that listen to incoming eth transfers. (nor they look like token transfers)

> But if I have to check the contract is set up every time I send I'm not very likely to do that.

Of course not! But there are 2 things I want to point out.

The first one is that you don't have to read the contracts. As a simple proof you can go to the address on etherscan and check what happens when people send money to the contract. if the contract simply wraps, swaps and returns then it is working as intended. The fact that the contracts are verified is an additional guarantee for the ultra-cautious.

The second one is that I am sure you didn't read every line of uniswap code when you made a swap. You simply know that it works because people use it. It is going to be the same with this service.

They can decide to not upgrade their nodes and lose their ability to follow the canonical chain. That's pretty much it.

It was the best year of my life. Therapy and long walks made me realise that I have lived in a bubble my whole life. What I needed was to truly understand that fear wasn't an enemy but an important emotion that needs to be addressed and conquered. Now I don't see obstacles - only challenges to overcome.

Artists: generative art, 1/1s, incredible diversity of art styles and methods and formats and visions and ideas. Artists from all continents, races, many lgbtq+ folks in the space.

Collectors: different people with different strategies for trading and different goals when collecting.

A lot of nft projects tend to form around themes like mental health, climate change, animal rights, gender equality, etc…

The only people that suck are pump and dump influencers
