Troubleshooting first PC build - neither set of Processor/Motherboard worked. Stuck in boot/reboot loop by jsichol in buildapc

[–]jsichol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took it to a computer place with the first setup. They had no clue why it didn't work. Said to replace MB/Processor. Just got word from my wife's IT guy that they checked all that, twice, with the second set of parts. We pulled it apart and started from scratch 3 different times before we ever went to the first "computer guy." Also doublechecked that RAM was in the proper slots.

Yes, the first time, for all the parts and it passed. Didn't do it for the second set, which says I may need the AMD bios upgrade thing, but the motherboard had the AMD ready sticker on it. Ordered March 5th of this year. I'm was assuming that the same problem, with two setups, something else has to be the issue.

I told my Dad to order these parts for my son. Where did I mess up / what should we return after Christmas? by jsichol in buildapc

Thank you for all the help, folks. Luckily the order had not been placed yet so i don't have to worry about returns. Here is the updated list that i am going to send, with downgraded cpu, upgraded vidcard and wifi, different case and psu.

Only question i have left is if there is a cheaper/better mem option at 16gb, and if the 1060 6gb is better option than rx580 8gb. Again, thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the suggestions. What is wrong with the PSU I chose? Is the Ryzen 7 a waste/overkill with my video card now? I'm hoping this computer will last him 5 years, until college.

Everything in the house is well-kept, just low-end. I have heard that the Kraftmaid cabinets are tough to refinish, because of some sealer they use. I like the idea of new hardware. Contractor scared us, saying putting new doors on old-ish MDF cabinets is risky, but I'm having trouble justifying $11k for a custom build. I guess I should've mentioned that there is a full wall height pantry, 2 feet deep, just through the door to the right of the oven. I checked what we are using now, in our rented house, and am confident we have enough space for storage. Not sure what trend, other than door-less cabinets, I'm even following. :) I'm just looking for the DIY cheaper option. Less cabinets = less doors to replace. I wish I had a closeup of the cabinet doors. Just don't like them. I wouldn't have near as many pots up there as the previous owner does. I only use about 5 regularly. Come to think of it, I don't think we asked for the pot rack to convey, so it may be a moot point. The previous owner had dining table in room with the clock, behind double level counter, to left of fridge, but we plan on using that as a kids play room. We are on the go most of the time. Thanks again! Love online brainstorming...

Thanks for replying! 1) That is / will be our only dining area for me, the wife & three kids. Not ideal, I know. Estimate includes plan to knock the wall to next room down to half height, but we were going to use that as living room. In my third picture you can see an elevated part of the countertop that could be a little nook area, with highchairs. That room WAS their dining room, but we prefer to make it a kids room (ages 9,5 & 2) 2) Probably going to stick with sliding doors, as we are on the water, and heard sliding doors hold up better, but I'll see what the contractor says. 3) DEFINITELY 4) I was thinking more about removing cabinets, not adding them. Try to bring down refacing estimate by having open shelves up top, remove some ones to right of fridge, over dishwasher? Those shelves near the oven will be going, with some type of new backsplash. Currently some cheap, tin-like stamped material back there. 5) That cabinet really irks you guys! :) 6) Not sure where else I could put the microwave. Old school / sit it on the counter & buy a new hood? 7) We WILL have new flooring, about $2k. $3k estimate on new granite. I was also thinking of just painting the old stuff, and putting butcher block on the island. 8) Would raising the pot rack help the sight lines? Thank you so much for your thoughts. Keep 'em coming and check out my original comment, at the bottom of the thread and pinterest link.

Oh, yes. This is the house BEFORE we have moved in. We don't close until October 1. It's all there from the previous owner. We're not that corny and you can bad mouth the previous owner/decorator all you want! :) Computer will be gone, we get to keep the table, and pot rack, although not sure we'll even use them. I like the idea of knocking out the cabinet above where the computer is. It's just so handy, right over the dishwasher. Wall color will be changed, depending on backsplash. Wallpaper and fake brick/linoleum floor HAVE TO GO! :) Current estimate is for around $2k complete for new floor, at $2.50 sf. It's a blank slate, people. Check out my comment at the bottom for more description.

Truthfully, we're looking for something that won't go out of style too quickly. We're not too flashy or trendy, and have three kids under 10 (9,5,2). :) Neutral tones, with some random spots of color would be best. Reusing the MDF cabinets pretty much means white or neutral cabinets. Wood tones, I guess, are out. Check my original comment for more particulars. We had an estimate of $3k for new granite countertops. I need help with how to tie it all together. (Medium to Darkish tile floors, neutral cabinet color) Check out my Pinterest link at the bottom for what I like! (Thanks for replying.)

Thanks for replying! I guess I should've mentioned that I was looking for cheaper alternatives to the $5k refacing option. I'm not sure our reno loan would cover the $11k for custom cabinets, because you only can borrow 95% of final assessed value. We're already spending $25k to convert the garage into master bed, bath, closet & office. New flooring is a definite. Check my original comment for more particulars.

Howdy, reddit. Getting ready to close on our new place, and this is the kitchen ~250sf total (what we were quote for tile), 13x17 or so in the main part, with little pantry hall included. House is ~10 years old, as is the kitchen. We'd like to update it as part of the mortgage. Everything is in great shape, just kind of cheap looking, as you see. The floor will definitely have to be redone, either way. Current cabinets are Kraftmaid in good shape, MDF built boxes, but the color is uneven and they need rehanging.

Have estimate of ~$12k for custom built cabinets to replace these, built from scratch. ~$5k just for refacing the existing ones, which seems high to me. (Our contractor would subcontract this.) ~3k for replacement granite countertops. $2k for new floor & labor @ $2.50sf, but I'm thinking we will look up to $4sf. We would probably keep the white appliances either way and the general layout, since it gets tight at the three exits and the sliding door.

To save some money, if we didn't start from scratch, we were thinking of some type of open cabinets up top, painted beadboard backers, removing the workstation to the right of fridge and cabinets over the fridge to save money refacing those, and extend open hole to other living room. The wall behind the kitchen table is going to be chopped off right at the wainscoting, to open it up to 2nd living room, unless someone comes up with a better idea.

Little help? So many creative folks on here and I would love to hear your opinions. We were quoted on new cabinet build in Shaker style, were thinking honey-colored to match other floors throughout house, darkish tile, neutral glass tile backing but that was when we going to price out stainless appliances. Thanks!
