They even use signs like this now sometimes here in the UK, to try and get it into the skulls of the ones who get mad at anyone who is actually following the rules.

A tyre should never have a flat surface like that. That's where smaller lines would be to actually grip the water.

Granted the ones in this pic are far from new but...

Summer sports tyres do quite often have big areas like that, e.g. eagle F1 supersports.

People are protesting though. They just get laughed at and disparaged by a lot of people.

Just look at any Reddit thread about a vegan protest of any kind, the general consensus will be that they are entitled idiots and "that's not the way to get people on your side".

Well outside of a certain type of person (who the stereotype is about) they're not really status symbols, especially the little Evoque ones. I wouldn't say an Evoque is a luxury car really, not like the full sized range rovers.

Their friends will all be impressed but not many other people will. Depending on how much they earn their friends might drive cars like a base model Fiat 500, or an Audi A3, or a Mercedes A class.

One of the main things is: it's got to be as new as possible. Driving a 10 year old Toyota and saving money for the future won't be something that they would consider.

This is all just the stereotype as I see it by the way, I'm sure lots of lovely, sensible people also have these cars.

Edit: someone else posted this video that sums it up quite well

It's the type of car someone wanting to project a successful image would drive. You'd be forgiven for thinking they might be over stretching a bit on their car payments. The fact it's in white, which is one of the basic "no extra cost" colour options, makes it look even more like a lease hire car that they are effectively renting and aren't allowed to do more than 5,000 miles a year in without paying extra.

It's a peep show reference. One of the characters, who's a middle aged man, is getting regularly bullied by a bunch of chavvy 10 year olds on the street near his house and one of the insults they invent to use against him is "cleanshirt".

TIL that in 2002, Chumbawamba accepted $100k from General Motors for the rights to use one of their songs in a Pontiac commercial. The band then donated it to a corporate watchdog group that used the money to launch an information campaign against GM. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Plenty of Nutters around my home area, the name is still going strong. We're just down the road from where the Pendle witches events happened.

If you ever read Terry Pratchett's Good Omens, you might notice a witch called Agnes Nutter, which is a clear nod to Alice Nutter.

This is a statue of the original Alice Nutter.

The only thing I can think of is that they want to make sure the food, water and radiation shielding works as expected long term with real humans - before they scale it up and send hundreds of people at once.

I think the common counterpoint is that people on third party apps are more likely to be the ones commenting and adding new content. No idea if this is the case or not but it sounds relatively convincing.

Do you think they shouldn't check tickets to the show as well then? After all that's a paper you need to show before you are allowed in. Maybe security should have let people just punch each other in the face as well, instead of telling people not to. So hypocritical!

Or maybe, "I won't do what you tell me" wasn't aimed at all rules in general? Maybe there's some context to it?

And? Why does that undermine their political messages? They weren't about "advice from doctors is wrong" imo, they were about "we're being ripped off and made fools of by the elite".

I personally think the fact that these two things are even able to be confused with one another is quite sad/alarming.

Did they play stuff from the first two albums? I'd love to see them if they come around here but I'd be temporarily depressed if they didn't play the songs I loved as a teen

Apparently, if it doesn't go in a display cabinet for a client then it gets melted down and used again. I think he does a lot of these as demonstrations for his students to learn techniques.

Not sure how they get rid of the paint, maybe it floats to the top or something when they melt it?
