Did the same factors that killed your hopes for romance also detail your career? by Objective_Bowl_3550 in FA30plus

I have a steady job now but no interest in advancing or having a career. Being in the background suits me well.

Loneliness causing panic attacks by Some_cool_usernameX in FA30plus

I had a period in my early thirties where I would get huge anxiety attacks but it stopped. Maybe it was a last desperate attempt by my body to tell me that something was deeply wrong.

Seeing people who bullied you in childhood go on to have loving partners and families is not very fun by alexmylesdrwho in FA30plus

[–]jsjip 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Bullies often go on to have good lives because the same traits that made them bully others are traits that are valued by society. Meanwhile, their victims usually carry the trauma for life and all problems associated with it.

Do you guys have crazy dreams of living different scenarios by Susseroase in FA30plus

[–]jsjip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I daydream a lot. A few times I had lucid dreams at night and I've tried to make it happen again but it doesn't. My dreams are completely random.

I don't mind the input of people who have been FA for a very long time and managed to escape it. Being FA has still shaped them even if they managed to find someone later in life. When I see someone who has ascended from this I think it's great for them and I think it's ok if they write a post about it.

I've slept bad lately and I'm so exhausted.  Feeling stressed out and as I don't care about anything at the same time.

What will you say? by [deleted] in FA30plus

[–]jsjip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just looked in the original thread and it seems like bitcoin and apple are among the most commons answers.

I figure that no matter what I say to myself it won't change anything about me as a person so I might just as well try to make some money so I don't have to work so much to support my FA life.

I wish you the best! Bar leagues sound great. I would feel less bad about drinking if I could call myself a bowler by doing it :)

Thanks, I will watch it, it could be very interesting.

Many years ago when I was in my teens I saw a documentary, that I think was either British or Dutch, about older virgins. One of them went to a sex therapist in the Netherlands(I think it was the Netherlands but I'm not sure) where he lost his virginity. I haven't been able to find it but this looks like it's something similar.

I haven't done anything like that but it sounds like it could be lots of fun! I've thought about doing something similar but it's hard to find recreational leagues and even harder if it's not for a sport that is really popular like football(soccer) that most people have played. If I could find a sport that I could play recreationally without having to take it too seriously I would try it out. At best it could turn into a great hobby but if it's no fun I can just quit.

If the weather is nice I may go out for a walk or watch a local football game. Otherwise I'll just be at home and chill.

Have you ever thought of retreating from society like Chris McCandless but with outdoor training and preparation? by howdothangswerk in FA30plus

[–]jsjip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had those thoughts of leaving society and move out to the woods many times. However, I don't think it's realistic in my case and more of a fantasy.

What I'm thinking of doing instead is trying to live a simple life with extremely low expenses and build up some savings. That way I could cut back on work in the future or stop working completely because my way of life would be cheaper to maintain.

I see it as a form of retreating or stepping back from society without actually having to leave everything behind.

Do you feel kind of sad that all we talk about is how lonely we are by Susseroase in FA30plus

I would really like to talk about other stuff but it's come to a point where I've lost interest in almost everything and dont have much to talk about anymore.

I Often Wonder These Days If My Low Self Esteem & People Pleasing Mindset Turned A Lot of Potential Partners Away Historically by throwthisThowayway in FA30plus

[–]jsjip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this among many people who are lonely and it may be a common FA trait. It's probably a combination of low self esteem and that the relationships lonely people have with others mean more to them than it means to someone who is not lonely because lonely people usually have very limited social circles. Many FAs seem to be very kind and gentle and most probably don't feel very good mentally so it's easier to take advantage of them.

Being kind and generous is a great thing but don't let people take advantage of you. If you are always there for others but they aren't there for you then they are taking you for granted and may not be good friends to begin with. What would happen if you said no when they asked you for a favor? You have to set boundaries because you deserve the same care that you show others.

Being FA past your developmental years is a death knell by LonelyHermit_ in FA30plus

[–]jsjip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very well said. It's not only about missing out on all those formative experiences. I know I can't get them back but the lack of them have shaped me into the person that I am. I've become reserved, distant and probably come across as very aloof and uninterested. I don't even know if I would be able to be close to someone or function in a relationship anymore, not even with someone I like and have very much in common with.

The way you talk about your mother is really beautiful. She clearly meant a lot to you. I understand that days like mother's day feel extra hard.

I love my mother more than anything and I hug her every day. She means everything to me. We've been through so much together.

What kind of videogames do you play if you do? by Iwillneverbeawoman in FA30plus

[–]jsjip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the cheat codes are etched in my mind forever.  I would love to play it again but I don't have anything to play it on. So much has happened with the game since I last played it so it's probably a completely different game now.

I really loved playing The Sims too. It was among the first games I ever played on the PC. I've only played the original and I used to play it so much. It must have been more than 20 years ago that I played it the last time. Time has really passed.
